What's New in Version 6.1
- Minor Bug fixes.
Nice player, but doesn't download from Plex correctly
I was very pleased with this player at first glance. It is well-designed with an intuitive UI. I tested it streaming movies from my Plex server and it worked well. Unfortunately, I had problems getting it to perform the main task I was looking for, which is to download movies to my iPad to play when I travel. I tried downloading two movies and a TV show via the Plex server. The TV show seemed to work well in the download, but it wouldn't play after downloading it. The 'play' button simply never showed. The downloads of the two movies were odd in that the download screen showed a negative number for the file size, and the progress indicator ran inconsistently; sometimes counting up and other times counting down, sometimes showing a percentage complete and other times showing percentages over 100%. In the end, I could never get something to download and play. I tried the same items in another player and they downloaded correctly. That's a shame because I otherwise really like this player.
Works better than iTunes for video!
I've been a long time Apple user, but it's been years since I last used an iPod or iPhone for films and TV shows. I gave up because of the very tedious process (i.e. conversion) and the lack of support for various video and audio formats. So imagine my surprise when I discovered this video player. After fiddling around with it for a bit, I was already sold. UI is neat and easy to figure out, and you can transfer videos via wifi or USB for bigger files. Haven't tried over wifi yet, but the USB method on iTunes works great. So far, I've played 1080p mkvs and mp4s. Works ok, only experienced a slight lag with some bigger files that seemed to go away after a few seconds of playback. (Could just be my aging iPad 2) My only suggestion is that the interface could look a little less 'serious' or boring. That's it.
I commend the makers of this app for making such a versatile and easy-to-use media player!
Very good video player
I've used PlayerExtreme for over a year now. It has a nice feature set, and allows easy transfer of files between my Mac and my iPad. Recent additions include controlling playback speed and single frame advance.
The only drawbacks appear to be that as a work in progress there are always minor difficulties and no apparent way to contact the author. For example, when playing a video, sometimes upon completion the screen goes black with no apparent solution, and sometimes the screen simply resets the position in file indicator to the beginning. This is a minor error, and I'm sure it will be fixed in a subsequent release. It would be nice to know where to report such errors, and where to suggest additional features. My biggest feature request for now is to enable automatic replay.
Overall I'm quite happy with PlayerExtreme.
