Clumsy, but it does work
It can be awkward to set up, but it will connect to my HX70V camera. To get it to work, you have to send a picture or pictures (Fn button does it in view mode) to your iPhone, then select the Sony wifi connection in the phone's wifi settings, and finally open the app. Once the app is open, the pictures will load in one of three resolution choices; full, 2mb, or VGA. File transfer is very fast using the 2mb size.
It is a clunky and non-intuitive program, but it is a workable way of transferring photos from the camera to your iPhone or iPad. It would be nice if fewer steps were required to start the wireless transfers, but it costs nothing and will get the job done.
Fussy to set up, but adequate afterwards
I recently purchased an A5100 and wanted to take advantage of the wifi feature.
After getting this app, I found that it was really fiddly to set up. The instructions at Sony’s website are maddeningly vague but gave me just enough hints to figure it out. Now that I’ve paired my A5100 with my iPhone, I don’t have to go through the hassle of figuring everything out again. The only complaint I have now is that it takes about 30-45 seconds to get a steady connection.
It is great that I can geotag my photos from the A5100 via this app with the GPS in my iPhone. I enjoy using the remote control feature. I’ve lifted my A5100 at the end of a 15-foot painters pole to get some overhead shots of a tall sculpture with the help of this app and had success.
The interface is spartan but functional. The only reason I’m taking any points away from this app is the poor documentation from Sony and the slow connection after setup.
Gets the job done but it's not great
When you copy pictures from a camera, there is not an easy way to save them to your Photos library on your phone. A workaround is to make a shared photo stream and only share it with yourself but this is clumsy and you have to add photos one by one. The icon REALLY needs some work. It seems that you can only receive photos from the cameras when on the main screen of the App which is frustrating when you want to have to save those one by one to your camera roll. You can't multitask really at all with this app. It does what it is meant to do: receive photos from. Wifi enabled Sony camera, but the benefits don't really go beyond that.
