Great idea but too expensive
This is the wave of the future. I would have given it five stars but due to the pricing it is impractical. The concept of the PlayOn desktop app is amazing, but it is only available for windows. They did not build their own gui for that and the app uses Internet Explorer. That is an extreme security risk for an always on media server. The pricing for that is incredible, but this cloud-based version is $.99 per unit. Doesn't matter if it's a 30 minute show or a two hour movie. If you watch a daytime soap opera, that's five dollars a week. And that's only for one show. So you do the math. It's great for once in a while but is definitely not a substitution for cable. I live in an area where I cannot get any antenna reception and I'm desperately trying to get rid of cable, but with the inability to get over the air networks and trying to do things legally, it's starting to add up. I hope somebody figures out how to offer these services affordably so people can actually get what they're supposed to for a reasonable price.
