Plickers lets you poll your class for free, without the need for student devices. Just give each student a card (a "paper clicker"), and use your iPhone/iPad to scan them to do instant checks-for-understanding, exit tickets, and impromptu polls. Best of all, your data is automatically saved, student-by-student, at plickers.com.

HS Mathematics FUN!
The first day I used Plickers with my students a student who rarely participates and is usually unengaged and quiet, asked if we could use them again the next day. The other kids really enjoyed them also. They even referred to them as "a game," which I love! Though plickers aren't math-friendly (can't input formulas, fractions look odd, can't make tables, etc.), I still use them with ease in the classroom. We've bypassed writing down bell ringers everyday, and we've moved on to this formative assessment tool. I love incorporating plicker questions throughout lessons to see if kids are actually understanding. It was easy to learn, my kids picked up quickly, and I even got a good report for my use of plickers by a veteran teacher who was unfamiliar with the application and who was assessing engagement across the entire school (I'm in my first year.). Love plickers!
Great Classroom Assessment Tool
I love using this app in my 7th grade math and language arts classes, and the students love it too! Some benefits of this app are immediate feedback for the teacher and the student, students do not need a device, which saves time and avoids off task behavior, and everyone's responses look different so students cannot look around the classroom and copy other responses. I have used this app as a chapter or book comprehension review the day before a quiz or test. I have printed reports for students to study from as well. I suggest hiding students responses from the class (you can still have a chart showing who has registered an answer) to avoid negative comments from classmates. Overall, I would recommend this app to every teacher, no matter the grade or subject!
I started using plickers last Spring and it was awesome. I have seldom had students excited about testing and grading their work. I love the fact that I can quickly get a view of who has it and who needs some extra help. It is non- threatening for students as right or wrong they see a check mark by their name on the screen. Only the teacher sees who has the wrong answer. The only thing hard about it is putting the questions in, but once you do it and save you are ready for next year!
My students even got excited about doing STAAR practice questions if they knew we would check with plickers.
