Convenient and affordable
This service is very convenient. I started using it when my riding mower broke and I just needed a one time mow. I liked having the day off so much I use it more and more to supplement my own mowing. I haven't signed up for a monthly service, I have only used the one at a time option.
The pros are that you can schedule service one at a time as needed if you just don't have time or you can schedule a service and just let them do their thing. The cons are that you may get a different company each time so if you have any special considerations with your yard you may have to make sure you are there to explain to the crew.
There have only been a couple of times in the 6 months I have been using the app that the crew didn't show up on the day scheduled because of weather or some other issue, but I always got a text from the service keeping me informed. In the end a crew always made it out to do the jobs.
All in all I have been very happy with the service and like having the option to do my own yard or have a crew come and give me a break.
I am updating a review I left a month ago. I was very upset when I left my review. I had ordered a mow and it was never completed and the customer service rep finally just said "I'll cancel it for you. Have a nice day." That was after a week of calling and emailing. The owner of the company got wind of this and called me on my cell phone and had someone out there the next day for free and emailed me a $50 gift card to one of my favorite restaurants. He did a very good job at calming me down and making the situation better. I do, however, think he should let a few in customer service go. :) I was told my case served as a case study for them and I truly do believe they are committed to improving. As for the app itself: It's fine, nothing fancy. It has always worked for me. As for their work: It's okay… not perfect, but good enough. Good in a pinch. Tin my experience and with the providers who have serviced my yard, they have always left it very long so it needs mowed 5 days later. But when you can't do it yourself due to time, the app is convenient and works. And the job is good enough.
Not ready to scale, no quality control.
Have used this app several (4-5) times. On two occasions there were serious issues with the service provider- one was a complete no-show, the other arrived, mowed half the yard (as in, left major stripes of unmowed lawn and a full potion of the yard unmowed) and did no trimming at all. I was home and watched the whole thing- he left and I assumed he was coming back (out of gas? Had to get home?). Never did. Took three weeks, a series of emails/photos, 2 online chats and 3 phone calls to fix things, all the while my yard looked absurd.
The app doesn't allow you to see service provider ratings, nor was I reassured that the terrible provider would not be assigned to me (or anyone!!) again. Customer service is friendly, but ineffective and lacks follow up.
When the provider is good, the app is great! On demand mowing! But with a 3/5 track record it isn't worth my time to use this service. I found a local landscaper who will do "on demand" for exactly the same cost as Mowz, and in fact 10-15% less with a seasonal contract.
