The first 3 reviewers perhaps misunderstood?
I think the first three reviewers (all 1 star) were reacting to the fact that on launch, the app doesn’t respond for a bit, and the first-use experience is generally terrible. There are definitely some user interface issues that need to be ironed out:
- I’m not sure why it doesn’t respond for about a minute, but I get the sense its setting up some additional configurations in the background. I notice some of my network interfaces pop up windows. Maybe the app is getting network access?
- The splash screen has an explanation of 4 steps, but it would be helpful to provide some on-screen tips a-la Keynote or Numbers, highlighting that the controls are accessible via the menu bar icon, and ideally, walking the user through those out-of-app steps.
- Rather than the splash screen button saying “Close Window” it should say “Go to preferences” which would open the Plug Spy preferences.
The other offering in this space is Power Adapter Alarm, which provides the same basic feature, but lacks a lot of what this app offers. They both have a terrible first-use experience though.
Now that I got through the first-use experience, I think this is the far superior app, but I’m concerned that it hasn’t been updated since April 2012. So I hope the developers seize this opportunity to reform the first-use experience and push a fresh update. If Power Adapter Alarm gets more updates, I’ll probably switch just to avoid stale software.
As a feature request, I’d like to be able to train a shortcut key to activate, or just activate when the screen is turned off.
I’m actually surprised Apple doesn’t have something like this built in, it’s just so obvious.
Ok, I am soooo not happy with this app right now. I'm sure it works but I just wasted $2.99. Appreantly it won't work with Macbook Airs and they don't tell you that in the disctiption. They just say that you need a sudden motion sencer. I didn't know the Macbook Air doesn't have it. Please change your discription to be more clear.
Does not work
I'm also not soooooo happy… I installed it in my macbook pro and dosen't work at all!!!!!
