What's New

Version 6.9.5

How many builds must an app go down, before it's considered an app? I know, I know, it's an age old question. Sadly we've yet to answer it except to say: "Welcome to the app condition my friends":
- Fixed the watch app having an outdated Now Playing screen in some circumstances
- Fixed issues with chromecasting
- Fixed some crash issues
- Ran out of funny things to say
- Well not really, did you really think I'd really ever really do that? Let's get real, like really real people. For real. Real talk. Real time. Real soon.

Simply the best

T Lin

The dev, Shifty Jelly, have been at it in the podcasting business a lot time. And their full-featured Pocket Casts app is what they have to show for it. It will not disappoint. I consider it simply the best podcast app out there.
If you listen to podcast while on a desktop computer, I’d also recommend you try their web app. Pocket Casts sync with it creating a fully integrated seamless user experience.

My old review (mostly still relevant, ‘cept the cons have been addressed to my satisfaction!)

I see the negative reviews as those that find change hard to deal with. Yes, the new Pocket Casts takes some getting use to. But, give it some time and the user experience is worth it!
Outstanding job, Shifty Jelly!

As a former Podcaster user, I am very impressed with my overall experience in using Pocket Casts.

+ aesthetically pleasing UI
+ faster, more reliable push (than Podcaster) based on my experience
+ flexible playback controls (big rewind/FF buttons, 1x/1.2x/1.5x/2x playback speeds)
+ chapter support (image changes with each chapter if podcast author provides for it, of course)
+ Dev is very responsive to user issues/feedback

- Podcast Cleanup Management needs to have an auto customizable option
- I'm not crazy about the new v2 icon (liked the older one better)

Pretty good but missing some essentials.

Honestly, right now, you’re probably better off with the stock apple Podcast app. This app looks great, but is missing some stuff that’s so basic i have no idea how it was missed. One of which is they you must subscribe to a podcast to play an episode.... what? That doesn’t even make sense?? Second, it marks like all but the last 2 episodes of a podcast as “Played”, regardless of whether or not you actually have listened to them, which is really annoying if you want to go back into a podcast. The last thing, on the topic of going back into a podcast is that the organization is horrible. There is no seasons, no years, no nothing. It’s just a reverse chronological order list of the episodes. Does it look nice? Yeah, for sure, but it just misses some real basics that make it almost unusable for me, and definitely not better than the stock app :/ Has real promise, the design is amazing but it just doesn’t cut it right now

Simplicity is great but...

..why are offline episodes grouped as “played” whether or not it was truly played? On that note, how do you know if you played it (outside of relying on your own memory)? If there’s one thing the Apple app did well is displaying ‘played episodes’ as well as progress, and that episode status doesn’t change (unless the user opts for this).

Also if you want to play episodes in order from oldest to newest, it’s basically impossible to do this especially if the show has a ton of episodes. And what’s the deal with no year in the date? Some of these shows have been on for years and it’s difficult to stay organized and play in order (again, if you want to start from the beginning and play in order). Not all of us want to start with the latest episode and play them retroactively.
