What's New

Version 6.9.3

Version 6.9.3 Fixes layout issues with iOS 10 and the podcast and now playing pages.

In case you missed it, version 6.9.2:
- Added episode details to the Apple Watch app so you can read about an episode before playing it (or force touch to star, mark as played, play next or play last).
- Apple Watch app now shows playback progress.
- Added force touch chapter buttons to the Apple Watch Now Playing page. You're welcome.
- There's a phone which we're not allowed to name launching, and in theory this version supports that phone. We have no further comment at this time.
- Fixes a Google Cast crash when casting to a group of audio devices.
- Podcast images now load faster than ever before. As part of this change the app will need to clear out your current artwork. It will only do that once, and should reload it when it needs it.
- Various other enhancements and fixes.

Simply the best

T Lin

The dev, Shifty Jelly, have been at it in the podcasting business a lot time. And their full-featured Pocket Casts app is what they have to show for it. It will not disappoint. I consider it simply the best podcast app out there.
If you listen to podcast while on a desktop computer, I’d also recommend you try their web app. Pocket Casts sync with it creating a fully integrated seamless user experience.

My old review (mostly still relevant, ‘cept the cons have been addressed to my satisfaction!)

I see the negative reviews as those that find change hard to deal with. Yes, the new Pocket Casts takes some getting use to. But, give it some time and the user experience is worth it!
Outstanding job, Shifty Jelly!

As a former Podcaster user, I am very impressed with my overall experience in using Pocket Casts.

+ aesthetically pleasing UI
+ faster, more reliable push (than Podcaster) based on my experience
+ flexible playback controls (big rewind/FF buttons, 1x/1.2x/1.5x/2x playback speeds)
+ chapter support (image changes with each chapter if podcast author provides for it, of course)
+ Dev is very responsive to user issues/feedback

- Podcast Cleanup Management needs to have an auto customizable option
- I'm not crazy about the new v2 icon (liked the older one better)

Huge lack in capability

I used this app for a long time. It was my favorite podcast app by far. Out of curiosity I went back to the Apple podcast app to see how it felt. The one thing Pocket Casts is missing is good discoverability. For some reason it’s severely lacking compared to Apple’s it’s just not easy to discover other podcasts you might like. It’s like going to my bedroom bookshelf verses Barnes and Noble. My other big problem is it took a very long time to bring us a Watch app and it’s pretty much unusable. Now that the watch has a now playing complication built in it takes a split second to pause or skip ahead in a podcast. My work day is almost entirely dependent on my podcasts at this point so quick response and finding new ones to listen to are massive.

Definitely deserves 3 stars, because of all the third party efforts, this is the best. It just can’t touch Apple’s depth.

Never Updates

I really love this app. I tried nearly every podcast app in the App Store before finally settling on this one. Sadly, I have to delete it and find another one. It just won’t update anymore. I have it set to download over cellular data, have perfect cell service and 90% of the time it tells me “Refesh failed”. The store rarely works either. It tells me there’s no internet connection, even when on wi-fi. Worked for awhile and I loved it, but this app is no longer useable for me. Also, I deleted the app to see if that would work and now it won’t let me sign in again. Thought maybe I did the wrong password so did a password reset- it tells me it can’t send the email at this time and to try again later. This has been days of “try again later”. Last, the Import/Export button doesn’t work. It told me for weeks there’s an error and to try again later. That’s 4 bugs, 1 app. Just not acceptable at all.
