What's New in Version 6.1.1

This update fixes a few small issues found since 6.1, and also, rather sadly, removes our designers face from the auto download setting icon. We no longer get to make jokes like "No, that's the correct icon. Meet Chris, your Auto Download Manager". For some reason Chris was never on board with this bold, dare I say revolutionary design direction, which I suspect is just jealousy at me crafting it while he was away. Personally I'll miss that feature, but you know what they say, life is fleeting, enjoy those special moments.

The best podcast app, and getting better

I've always loved Pocket Casts, but I used Overcast when that was the only app with the silence remover/reducer. Now Pocket Casts has it, and so much more. It's the best looking podcast app and it has the nicest combination of features.

Ignore the bad reviews complaining you can't have the app just keep playing podcasts. You can. It's called Up Next, and if you go into the settings for a podcast you've just subscribed to, you can make it automatically add episodes to Up Next. It couldn't be easier. People are simply not paying attention. Pocket Casts now makes it *simpler* to create other lists as well and make sure your podcasts and episodes just keep playing.

I love the app, I love the look, I love Up Next, and I love Trim Silence. My only request is to be able to download solo episodes of something without having to subscribe first. That seems like a bit of an obvious miss.

Too much lag

If they worked out the bugs, this would be a 5-star app. That said, currently there is up to a couple second gap between pressing play/pause, and sometimes you have to press play/pause several times to get it to even start. Enhancements needed: ability to start streaming podcasts while downloading them. Ability on custom filters to group by Podcast (instead of listing them by air date). I also don't think selecting a podcast to play is particularly intuitive (I routinely click on the podcast episode name, which brings up the description, instead of the small play button off to the side. Given how we hold our phones, it's easier to select something in the middle of the screen than on the edge, so I think it would make more sense to reverse that functionality: click on episode name to play, or on a "..." to see the description/episode options).

Can't shut off; hard to sort, playlist deletes.

Pocket Casts is more frustrating the longer I use it. It continues to turn on randomly, which is a real drag. This is been happening for several months (and I've let the developers know).

Again tonight all the items in my playlist mysteriously disappeared. That was about 20 items in my queue to listen to. Happens regularly.

It's very hard to sort the "Up Next" list, and the layout & usability just need re-vamping. It really takes too much effort to use this app.

The "add to next" is just above the "play off from here", which is a design disaster that they should get a clue about. How many times do people accidentally put their finger on "play off from here" and delete their playlist? At the very least it should be a user option to configure.

Previously I could tap on my Bluetooth headset repeatedly to skip to the next podcast – this feature has been removed in the last two updates (I have checked with several Bluetooth headsets).

I just again lost my whole "Up Next" queue, for the umpteenth time, inexplicably.

I have a brand-new 6S, in prime condition, and I don't have any of these kind of problems with other apps. Casts is just too frustrating, and the developers don't seem to care. I'm tired of waiting – the problems just multiply.

To top it all off, their update changelog text is insipid cutesy stupidity that tells you nothing – because make no real improvements are made.
