To do this we utilize community driven open data from a number of amazing projects. We use some magik to compress and package it in a format optimized for mobile devices. Pocket Earth then renders its beautiful vector maps on your device using our OpenGL ES based MagikMap technology.

Don’t forget this:
1. Using the GPS features of this app can significantly affect battery life. Only leave GPS enabled when you need to use it. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Pocket Earth only uses GPS in the background for route navigation and gps track recording features.
2. This app uses data from the amazing community driven open mapping project called! Coverage detail may vary by region, please visit our website to check the map detail for your regions of interest.
3. Does not currently support all asian texts on the map (Chinese, Japanese, etc).

Customer Reviews

Pocket Earth is great. I bought it for the offline maps while traveling.
I have it on my iPad and iPhone. Before I go to another state or foreign country I download the areas maps. When I leave the hotel or parked car I drop a pin with label on the map so I can find my way back. The track function is nice, it shows heading arrow and line of travel. I used this while canoeing in a maze of tulles so I could find my way back. Also on a high speed train in France to watch speed, elevation and route.
On my old iPad without GPS I bought a external Glo GPS and connected via Blue Tooth which also worked with Pocket Earth.
One tip, while walking in towns, turn off wifi and let the GPS supply position, your iPad can pick up various positions and make the navigation arrow jump around.
I like the track function while hiking, summery page shows distance, avg speed, max speed, min max altitude and altitude change.

Great map, found a bug?

Ok, I guess Apple doesn't want me to give any context for this edit, since I cannot edit my old review by clicking "edit review", and I'm too lazy to write the whole thing again...

Long story short, I emailed the company because an in-app purchase had disappeared, and they said to ask Apple about it, that it wasn't on their end. Apple said the same thing, but says they'll refund me the price of the purchase.

All in all, this app is pretty good, if somewhat unwieldy in my opinion. I like MapOut much more.

PE Pro is Awesome!

I've used this app for a long time and all of the "opportunities" I've mentioned in reviews before have been made (thanks!). As it turns out, only my old review needed fixed (sorry it took me so long).

Pocket Earth is absolutely amazing. Tons of great features, including add-ons that really enhance and expand how I use use it. And I love that it work across all of your iOS devices to sharing settings, favorites, POIs, folders, pins, etc.

Awesome job!
