Entertaining on many levels
This game will appeal to a variety of interests--gearheads (which I'm not) will probably love the types of planes and specs you can choose from, geography/map nerds (which I'm sort of) will enjoy learning or reinforcing their knowledge of the location of cities around the world, and those who like to organize obsessively (which I definitely am) will enjoy mentally keeping track of layovers, routes, plans for growth, and so forth. (If only one could earn so much money this easily in real life…)
While the graphics are largely pixelated vintage early 90's style (but cute), they're not the point. It's fun, though, how you can see the people and cargo in the airport and then the same passengers on the jobs list. Some of the cargo and names are also entertaining, as are the "Bitbook" entries (though these do get repetitive). The game is just realistic enough--where it fails in this area are all good things: you don't get docked if people have overnight layovers or if your sushi sits waiting for its connection for three days.
I found there's no need to buy Bux in order to enjoy the game--by the time you figure out how you like to play and how you want to expand into new airports and handle different types of cargo, you have plenty of money AND Bux (from deliveries as well as fly-by's in the sky). But, do buy Bux if you want to support the makers of the remarkably fun and intelligent free game.
… but it could use a little work. For example: You should get more than 2 new airport openings per level. So you get two new now, then three new between levels 10 and 20, and 4 new between 20 and 30, and so on. It would make it much easier for the higher level people gain world airline domination.
I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy it (and still am), I’m saying there are a few things that could be better. I would love to have the option of inviting my gamecenter friends to join my flight crew once a week or so. Wouldn’t you?
I give it 5 stars, just because I love the style, the gameplay, and have it for both OS X and iOS :)
Waiting to play the game
This suffers the same fate as a bunch of other games of its type. At first, everything is fast and snappy. Then after a few levels and purchasing a few more airports, you wind up "waiting to play the game" since it now takes a lot longer to get to the port of call. It's a fun game, but after so many levels, you wind up waiting too long to get to to load things up and play the game…only to wait again.
NOTE: I am having airports close for no reason right now. Two of my 10m ports have just closed.
