5 months
I've been using this about 5 months, before that I was using iTunes and the default player. The best thing is the extra control such as more playback speeds. The most annoying thing is that it tends to download a podcast but not be able to play it. It happens most often on networks in hotels for some reason. Even at the house though it can occur occasionally. There should be a way to redownload those. They can be selected and sent to the queue but the queue will then remove them since it will not download already downloaded podcasts. There needs to be a check when items are added to the queue that retries if the podcast is invalid. I would also suggest an additional option for controlling the total amount of flash reserved for all podcasts. Definitely pleased with it besides the above issues. (Updated) A few times a week when the player finishes one podcast and switches to a new one, there will be silence. The podcast is playing but is muted. Usually it recovers and starts playing after 30 seconds or so. If you change the playback speed, jump backward, or the volume, then it un-mutes. Different podcasts have different volumes. Under iTunes you can select to have the podcasts volume leveled which helps somewhat. During playback a few times a week the volume will decrease suddenly, if you jump back and forward this usually fixes it.
Far, Far Better Than Apple's Podcasts App
I decided to write a review when I thought about how horrifying it would be for me to go back to the Apple Podcasts App. This App is just far, far better. It's all about user interface. There's one "smart playlist" that works just like Apple's but you can make all your own regular playlists (add and remove podcast episodes one by one like always) or "smart" playlists that follow whatever rules you give them.
Another really nice touch is letting you customize the jump back and jump forward to be the number of seconds you want, and customizing what the "remote" buttons do... Aka the track forward buttons on your car. You can pick what their functions are. What a great idea! I love this app! If they told me I had to pay $100 or else go back to Apple Podcasts I would pay $100 in a heartbeat.
Much better than the Apple podcast tool
Since Apple has begun to push cloud, apps like iTunes, movies, and podcasts have become extremely confusing.
I find that whether or not I subscribe or intend to put actual content on my phone, more often I see that stupid little cloud with the arrow signifying that I can only pull it down over the air.
This application has a perfect workflow and makes it very obvious and clear whether or not the podcast will be synced down and how. Instead of the hazy Apple solution where hopefully you have Wi-Fi at the time, this trough a demarcation between Wi-Fi and your mobile provider bandwidth. Something that Verizon customers will appreciate.
I also think it does a better job of managing the space on the phone. By time I figure out how to force the Apple application to save it on the phone I've overdone it and I find it's taking up too much room. There are too many too confusing options in the Apple workflow. Just use this one you will not be sorry.
I have sprint all my podcasts are done real time in other words I just pulled them down off the air with my phone band with my provider bandwidth. Since most of these are MP3, I have never had to pause due to network conductivity issues despite many of those.
