Editors’ Notes

Use a gorgeous interface and delightful teaching techniques to memorize poems from literary masters like William Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and W.B. Yeats. Whether you’re a student reciting verses for class or a teacher looking to garner a deeper understanding of a work, Penguin Group’s wonderful app makes learning poems a fun, accessible experience.

Very effective method for memorization

The memorization method used is effective and enjoyable. I am on my third poem, and remembering the first two quite well. I would increase it to five stars if the poetry selection was larger or if it were possible to add poems. I would like to memorize more of Gerard Manley Hopkins, for example, and would find this method valuable for doing so.

The app comes with a handful of poems, and there are two reasonably priced collections you can purchase if you choose. I purchased both, as Penguin's memorization method is unique and easy to use. Another reviewer complained that the poems are in the public domain should thus be free, but what you are purchasing is individualized instruction for guided memorization of each poem. It's worth it if you are actually interested in memorizing. If you just want to read poems, get a book;-).

Great way to memorize poetry

Excellent app for memorizing poetry. You have to pay for poems to memorize and all the poems are available for free elsewhere, which likely upsets a lot of people, but what you're paying for is the platform on which you memorize these works. It's pretty good. The only downside is that it ranks your performance on each section with a certain number of points and it doesn't let you know how many points are possible within each section so you don't know if you're performing as well as you should be to "master the poem". Overall a good app. I hope they add further functionality to it in the future, but as of right now it's still a good app if you like poetry.
