The new decks make this no fun
I really enjoy playing the Pokémon TCG. It’s a game with a lot of thoughtful strategy and is balanced in such a way that for the most part, smart play can help you come back from being behind and can also even out new players with veterans so that there isn’t a horrible barrier to entry. The app is also totally free to play and offers a lot of variation so that you can endlessly play.
But I started getting really irritated with this game within the last 6 months or so. They released two new decks, the Mach Strike and Imperial Command decks. These decks are so overpowered compared to all the decks released. It’s very easy to do essentially one-hit kill damage within three, if not two turns. Occasionally you can come back to win if you get really lucky and if you quite literally play your cards right. But good luck getting to that point, because half of the people I play with use this deck to just grind. They quit out immediately if things start going south, and it drives me up the wall. I love playing a game that goes for a solid 10 minutes and provides a good challenge between two equally matched players, and this has become so few and far between because everyone just uses the same two decks because they’re the best, and no one actually wants a challenge.
I wish Pokémon would change these decks or get rid of them entirely, because they’ve ruined the fun and balance of the game.
Fun but obviously rigged against you
The game, as a whole, is fun. It's great for anyone who plays or is interested in the Pokémon TCG, as it does a great job in teaching the basics and advanced strategies. You don't have to pay a single penny to earn cards and decks; you earn in-game currency by playing vs the CPU or against others online. But there is one issue that I've been having since playing this: a lot of the time, the game can be rigged against you. If you are doing extremely well against a CPU opponent, the AI will "cheat". A good example of this is the coin flip. Your opponent will flip heads all the time while you get nothing but tails. Also, when you think you have a good chance of KOing an opposing Pokémon, your opponent will "conveniently" draw the right card and either heals or draws a trainer card that gives them the advantage. Another gripe I have is the online mode. Say you have a really great deck you just built without having to use any EX or GX cards. Well then be prepared to go up against someone who has a with like 5 EX cards and your deck doesn't even have a single chance of even defeating one of the opposing cards. Unless you get lucky of course, but by then you're only down to like one remaining prize card.
Very fun game but I have suggestions
This game is fun and is the best alternative to actual irl gameplay because I don't have any friends to play with or the money to actually buy cards, BUT I do not like how some (MOST) cards are trade locked, so I can't trade them away if I want to build a deck with some cards I have and want to trade away cards I don't need for cards I do need, I can't because they are trade locked and usually it takes forever to get the cards I need. Also, I think it would be cool if along with erasing the trade lock thing (or just toning it down a lot), it would be cool if in the shop we could sell cards we don't need for the pokecoins (I think that's what the currency is called). So each card has a sell value and you can sell them for pokecoins, so you can buy more booster packs just like irl. I hope you guys consider this but I am not trying to be I critic I'm just pointing out an annoying feature and offering suggestions. But thanks for this wonderful addicting game!
