"Very well designed...I kept coming back for more... real poker should be like this" - review

Pokerbot is a simple but very fun heads-up (1 on 1) poker game. The advanced artificial intelligence adapts to your skill level, whether you are a total beginner to Holdem or you're an old Texas road dog.

The artifical intelligence in Pokerbot was written to act like an actual person, and we consulted with lots of great poker players while creating the game. This means Pokerbot thinks, bets, calls and bluffs like real humans do.

Pokerbot is perfect if you want to get into poker but are intimidated to play live or online, and worried you'll mess up. In fact, the game actually started out as a poker training program.

A tutorial is built-in to teach you poker. If you ever need to check something like if a flush beats a straight, we have a clear and colorful hand ranking chart right inside the app - heck, take it to your home game and pretend to be texting someone when you need to sneak a peak ;)

Sneak in a really quick 1 or 2 minute game or a longer one with our 4 built-in speeds. If you've played SNGs on sites like Zynga, Facebook poker, Pokerstars, etc., you'll be able to match the speed to what you're used to.

To spice things up and add some action to the game, Pokerbot includes a feature called ONETIME which is brand new and exclusive to Pokerbot. ONETIMEs are kind of like little tiny cheat codes: You can use one per hand to switch one of the cards you don't like. So if you are trying to make a flush and the river card doesn't help, you can get a new one by using a ONETIME. Maybe you'll hit it this time!

There are a ton of achievements you can hit in the game to win trophies and ONETIME credits. Bluff Pokerbot by going all-in on the river with a bad hand and making him fold? Trophy! Miracle comeback to win a game? Trophy! Even when you just do some easier things like make a full house for the first time you'll win a trophy.

There are 34 trophies right now with more coming soon.

Pokerbot has a built in career mode - our rank system. You start at the lowest rank - NOOB - and you move up when you add money to your bankroll. The higher in rank you go, the more money you can risk per game - but make sure not to tilt and lose a ton of games, you can move down too if you're not taking things seriously!

See how your bankroll and trophies stack up against your friends or the world.

We've included some other fun stuff in Pokerbot too. For instance, if you win 2 games in a row, you're on a hot streak and you get to play a game for double the stakes. If you win *5* games in a row, you're on a superhot streak and it gets really wild: You get to play a bonus round where you're trying to win while only being dealt 7-2 offsuit (the worst hand in poker) every hand. Do so and you get a nice reward and a trophy. It's surprisingly addictive! Look for more even cool twists and rounds like this in future updates.

Needs An Update

If I was a poker player who complained all the time about the bad beats I suffered, I would create an app called "Pokerbot" and make the robot call off his entire stack while even in chips with hands like T-6 and 8-3s all-in pre-flop and program it so Pokerbot got there every m-effing time so that others could share my pain. Unfortunately, someone beat me to it.

Love the app. I play heads-up exclusively. For nearly ten years now. I really do like this app a lot. Very clean, very worthwhile and nice to play when I'm at the doctor's office and whatnot. But the bot plays some weird HU pre-flop strategy, and it gets there so many times even Russ Hamilton would blush. I guess finding a worthy AI is never going to happen, so I'll continue to play knowing this isn't real HU poker at all but a clever little app to pass time by with. App would be perfect if it called with hands a little more realistic, such as K-7, rather than cards that don't have much showdown value HU (i.e. two small cards). Update please?

Great with 2 VERY noticable flaws

I enjoy the heads up play, and the AI doesn't always play the same, contrary to other reviewers' opinions, keeping the game enjoyable and fresh. And I like their approach of as few visuals as possible so as to keep a quick game based on card skill vs opponent-read skill (which is just impossible to replicate in a video game). My biggest issues that knock this down a peg are EASILY remedied by the developers, and I anxiously await their addressing: 1) no music at all...if you're going to turn my iTunes off, at least have interesting sound effects. Wait, check that...just let me hear my tunes! 2) It's iOS 4 now...don't you think you could save my game on exiting? I hate being deep in a game, then losing absolutely ALL progress due to a phone call/text/email. Major fail, there. But I'll keep playing, despite the flaws...

Well thought out, but needs additional settings

I've been having some great battles with the "bot" which is the most important thing with poker. None of this all-in bluffing every hand that is infuriating when you're trying to hone your skills. But it does have a couple big mis-steps: 1. you can't save your game! I was in the midst of a 45 minute classic battle, exited, and that was it... game over, start again. A real deal breaker. 2. There really needs to be a setting to use "real cards", not these silly blue and green and red cards. What is this? Uno? I understand the desire to help newbies along by color coding cards, but there should be an option to see the cards as if you were really playing. Hope these get fixed.
