Description
PowerAid is an app that brutally awakes you in case of a power outage. If there is a storm coming, or a big freeze is on it's way, you really need this app. Even if PowerAid awakes you just once, it will probably be your wisest investment ever.
It's really simple: Connect your device to a power adapter and start the app. Put the device to sleep. That's it! If the power goes out, a loud alarm sounds.
PowerAid may also be used as an anti-theft alarm if you are charging your iPhone in public places.
If the power circuit breaker trips or if there is a blackout whilst you are asleep, it can end up costing you thousands. Food worth hundreds in the freezer lost. Heating stops. Your baby or toddlers might freeze. The baby alarm stops working. Your saltwater aquarium gets ruined. Basement sump pump stops. The burglar alarm gets disabled.
This app has a VERY LOUD alarm signal constructed to awake even hearing impaired.
Handy flashlight functionality included (available on iPhone5/4).
The app is VoiceOver optimized for the visually impaired.

Beautiful
I don't usually leave reviews, but I must say this app perfectly combines function and beauty. Simple elegant and user friendly with all the features you would want in a utility app of this sort. I did a lot of research on other similar apps and most fell short of my expectations, but this one hit the nail in the head. Now I can sleep comfortably knowing my daughter won't be left in the cold during a blackout.
Plus as a designer I have a have a love for beauty in simplicity.
Great But...
This is a very good idea and does fulfill the basic power outage alert. There are two things this app is badly missing: A detailed log, which records all the history of power outages etc.
And even more importantly, a function to send alerts via email, text message or 3rd party apps to other devices/contacts in case the power is out. Preferably configurable, e.g. only send alert when power is out for more than 5min, repeated alerts, where to send what alert notification based on criteria etc.
If the app can do that then it will be top of the line!
Great security app
I use the app as a security tether which works well. The app is clean and simple to use. I wish the prompt could be turned off but more of an eye sore than functionality. Background does work with device turned off. I do wish it could be always active in the background long as it is plugged in.
