Whoever said that studying had to be a chore? With the PreTest Self-Assessment and Review app from McGraw-Hill, you have the power to turn study time into play time. Tired of lugging around heavy textbooks and review guides? Let this app lighten your load. With questions and detailed answers covering the major topics included in the USMLE and medical boards, this app is a great place to start your test prep.
This starter pack app includes 25 free questions in each of the major topics and is expandable to hundreds more through in-app purchases. Topics include Biochemistry & Genetics, Pediatrics, Medicine, Psychiatry, Surgery, Neurology, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Neuroscience, and Physical Diagnosis.
Test your overall knowledge by answering randomly generated questions from all categories within a topic or target areas of weakness by focusing on a specific category. Need a more intensive review in, say, Psychiatry? Then download the complete set of 500 or more board-style questions and answers with detailed explanations by making an in-app purchase of $29.99 for that topic.
This dynamic app also allows users to flag questions as they go, thus allowing for easier review of problem areas. Users can even create a quiz composed solely of these flagged questions. Detailed analytics allows users to review their quiz history and statistics like their weekly progress. Users will also discover their category strength and weaknesses. By offering a rigorous review of key concepts and facts, this app gives users the knowledge they need to master the USMLE and medical boards and begin rewarding professional careers.

What's New in Version 1.1
This is a great portable QBank for while you are on the wards. I like how it shows you the answers and lets you mark questions. This is one of the better platforms for portable QBanks for medical students.
I stopped buying the paperbacks (which are wayyyy more cost effective- as low as $5), and just purchasing the app. The hard copy Pre-Test book is just too bulky to carry around in my white coat or scrubs.
The price of the app hurts... but performing poorly on the shelf exam hurts worse for me. I found if I have easy access to the questions, then they are more likely to get done. :) I can almost always sneak in at least 10-20 questions a day, even on a surgery schedule. :)
Also, remember that for the price you can have pre-test on you iPad AND iPhone!
My only complaints are:
(1) Please make purchases from Pre-Test app transferable to Prepzilla which are both by GWhiz (I think). If I am going to pay $30-$40 for an app, then I would like to please be able to not have to purchase the same thing two times for the same price.
My suggestions are to:
(1) Be able to select only questions you missed to be re-quizzed on (without needing to be flagged)
(2) Create more games
Thank you so much!
I do highly recommend this App for practical on the go studying.
Convenient but needs polishing
Certainly convenient to be able to access on your mobile device quickly on the wards or between cases, but some additional features would earn this app 5 stars. Specifically, the number of questions per set should be customizable, not limited to 5, 25, 50 and 100 questions. Also, questions that have been previously answered, whether in quiz or browse mode, should be accessible following first use or have the option to be omitted in subsequent quizzes. Finally, previous quizzes should be able to be reviewed at any point following their completion. Make this app more similar to the UWorld app and more users will follow.
Solid content, very glitchy
The content is identical to Pretest. The info in pretest is solid for shelf prep.
However, the app is incredibly glitchy and has not been updated for a while, yet you will be charged $30 per book.
When you swipe from one question to the next, often times, questions get skipped. Also, at times questions when you swipe some questions are automatically answered. Also when you change orientation from portrait to landscape, questions that have been answered become unanswered. The same glitches are present on the iPhone and iPad.
