Principles in Action is a free app that brings to life Ray Dalio’s best-selling book Principles: Life & Work by guiding you through interactive videos of actual cases of these principles in action at his company Bridgewater Associates. And it provides a lot more.
Principles in Action is being offered free-of-charge in response to strong demand to see Ray’s principles actually operating in the work environment. It includes:
* The complete bestselling book Principles: Life & Work with interactive case studies that show closed-door meetings at Bridgewater.
* The option for you to answer questions about your reactions to these principles shown in action. In future releases, these answers will allow you to compare your reactions to operating this way with those of others to help you learn about yourself.
* A digital “Coach” to help you easily find the appropriate principles for the specific situations you face. It will soon be adapted to help you develop your own principles and collect principles from others.
* Several of Ray’s studies on economics and investing and related subjects.
Principles in Action is also a platform for receiving other principles and tools as they are released, including courses and a tool to help you to develop your own principles. In the future, you’ll also have a chance to take a one-of-a-kind personality assessment which, when combined with your answers to questions in the courses, will give you a detailed picture of what you’re like along with tailored tips to help you achieve your goals in light of what you’re like.
Principles in Action was developed by Ray and Bridgewater for training at Bridgewater Associates. It is based on the principles that produced Bridgewater’s success and were explained in Ray’s book Principles: Life & Work. This book has been recommended by numerous leaders from all walks of life such as Bill Gates, Arianna Huffington, Marc Benioff, Mark Cuban, P. Diddy, Mike Bloomberg, Kevin Systrom, Jamie Dimon, and many others.

App crashes all the time, almost given up on it
The written content is good, but the app has begun crashing so often (i.e., every time I open it) that it’s becoming useless. This has been the case since I updated my phone’s software during the most recent IOS release a couple of weeks ago.
Also, the case studies don’t allow you to go back and restart them if you accidentally hit the incorrect answer, something that’s bound to happen often when you’re working from your phone—maybe the UI wasn’t intuitive enough or the subway lurched and you hit the wrong button. For me, this renders the case studies rather useless since they’re going to be based on inaccurate input.
Worst of all, the app crashed while I was on the subway yesterday and I was logged out of it. When I logged back in, I discovered that all of the text I’d highlighted and all of my notes were gone. This was really upsetting. I almost felt betrayed. I was using this app for self improvement and through its bad design, much of my work to help myself was erased. I’ve noticed that I’ve been far less likely to open the app since then. I just don’t have the enthusiasm I had for it.

Awesome App! Thank you so much Mr. Dalio!!!
Runs smoothly. Great user interface. Most importantly it makes me better. The coach finds answers to life’s problems on a daily basis and teaches you how to better handle challenges. These situations can be saved so you can begin to see how certain principles are more important for you to focus on or find your own answer to. Ray Dalio’s commitment to giving back later in life is actualized in this app by helping us all make better decisions each day. In addition he also provides access to his extensive writing on economic theory in his perspective which is also extremely insightful.
Inspired my entrepreneurial career
At 29, my 1st business hit $3,000,000 last year and I’ve got to give credit to Principles for inspiration to improve my company and my leadership style. The methods make sense and really get the gears turning.
I’m also starting another company, Skills Co. based on many of the Principles... a true skills meritocracy to learn skills from the best experts. Thanks Ray, keep up the great work.
