Best of breed!
I’ve tried them all, this is the keeper. I use it for a gallery of multiple genres and multiple artists. Killer features are: 1) Photos retain their filenames as on the Mac; 2) You can sort by multiple criteria including filename; 3) You can nest subfolders; 4) You can select a photo for the cover. Esthetics are important also, and this one looks quite nice with the black background option. Cut to the chase and buy the pro upgrade for data loading, it’s fast and accurate. Note, the app doesn’t back up to iTunes, so photos added originally in the app need to be archived separately. They offer a backup service, but it’s not in my use cases so no comment. I maintain everything on a laptop as the original source, but I can export anything to the laptop if I add it in the app, thus the value of filenames and metadata. My only quarrel is the passcode format – a 4-digit PIN would be a convenience, not a deal breaker but if fixed would rate a sixth star...
Very good photo management, could be great but lacks features
The good, this app offers very good photo storage and management letting you store images in a folder structure as you want. The UI is good, and it even offers some simple editing functions like cropping.
The bad - those simple editing functions like cropping sometimes crash and lockup the app. Not always, but often. Just have to kill and restart the app, so more annoying than harmful.
What's missing? It could be a 5-Star app if it supported...
01. Animated GIF's, it doesn't. It can store them but it won't play them - animated Gifs are part of my photo collection.
02. Device to Device Sync. It has a way to transfer photos from one device to another, and it works well. I'd really like to have a way to keep my iPad and iPhone in sync, so I've got the same photo collection on both. It cannot do that, and I find myself wishing it did almost daily.
The good in this app is very good. The stability with the edit tools could be improved so less crashes, but that seems only limited to the edit tools - the rest has been rock solid. Add the ability to display animated Gifs and sync a folder or set of folders between devices and this would be an amazing tool. It's good now, but it could be great with some additions.
Great - GIF support?
The app itself works wonders by hiding inappropriate pictures and videos I have of my girlfriend that I wouldn't want anyone else seeing. GIF support would be an awesome addition though. Maybe, tap the picture to start the GIF's loop, so the app doesn't lag crazily by loading every GIF you may have in that particular folder, or have the option to play a GIF a set number of seconds when it comes up on shuffle? Either way, it's great for hiding naughty images/recordings. (and GIFs;)
