Progressive Alarm Clock

By Spotlight Six Software

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

Description

Progressive Alarm Clock will wake you up gently and gradually using the beautiful sounds of the Tibetan singing bowl. At the specified alarm time, the bells will begin to ring in a pre-defined pattern - starting out softly and slowly and gradually getting louder and more frequent. You'll come out of your slumber slowly and peacefully. No more being jolted awake.

+ After setting the alarm, the app can be put in the background - allowing you to use other apps. At the specified alarm time, the alarm pattern will begin.

+ Choose from five pre-defined patterns with varying bell schedules and escalation lengths.

+ Choose from six different bells of varying size and metal compositions - from bright and clean to deep and complex with lovely overtones.

+ You may enter journal notes upon awakening - great for recording your dreams before the memory fades. You can then go back and review your journal entries and you may export the journal via email. For privacy, you may set a password to prevent unauthorized access.

+ To save battery, you may lock your device's screen and the alarm will still work. Either start the alarm and press the lock (sleep) button, or turn on the "Auto-Lock" setting.

+ This app uses the same amazing bell sounds used in our Insight Timer meditation timer. Here are some app store comments pertaining to the bells:

Nice tones, but that's all

Biggest complaint is that it does not turn itself off. I have tested this. If I acknowledge the alarm in the morning, but don't turn off the iTouch, it is still on 30 minutes later. Last night I charged my iTouch; this morning it is @ 65%.
Very little by way of user features. Many are mentioned here by folks who also find it lacking, but gave it 5 stars??? The missing features are found in the iTouch Clock app.
I like the progressive feature, and really want to use this. but it is simply too crippled to be of much use as an alarm clock. OTOH, I use their Insight Timer for meditation, and like it very much. I used to use Doan for the Palm Pilot, and it was a bit easier to use, but IT does a nice job as a meditation timer.
For those who find the lack of features and the manual setting and changing of alarms on this app are offset by the nice tones and progressive alarm level, this is a great app. For those who want the "set and forget" of the iTouch Clock app, I recommend that you look elsewhere.
Update: I went back to the Palm Pilot app. Sigh. And this sounds so nice. But the authors are unresponsive, and the app is crippled.

Ups and Downs

Until today I have been very pleased with the peaceful alarm on the app, but this morning it started going off and I had not set it the night before, which was frustrating. Since I hadn't set it, nothing from the alarm showed on the screen and I had to search for the app to open it and turn it off. I looked for a way to keep it from going off when I don't want it, but was unsuccessful. I had thought you had to reset it every night if you want to use it, so am pretty confused why it went off. I plan to keep using it, but I'm worried it will go off again on another day that I can sleep in.

Good, but could use a few improvements

The app is good, nice tones and decent amount of progressive options to wake one up nicely. Improvements:
- needs a repeat alarm function or schedule. Currently you have to start the alarm each time you want to use it, versus having it automatically start on a schedule determined by the user.
- the volume within the app is not independent from the main volume on the device. The app recommends full volume. So if ur like me and u rarely have ur volume on full, the user experience will vary.

Those two improvements would ensure that (a) i use the alarm everyday (b) hear the alarm when I do use it.
