Proloquo2Go is an award-winning symbol-based communication app that gives a voice to those who cannot speak. Over 200,000 people already use this AAC app as a powerful tool for expressing themselves and increasing their communication skills and language development. Its innovative features let users, parents, teachers and therapists quickly personalize the app.
Proloquo2Go is an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app used by people with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other diagnoses. It is available in English, Spanish, French, and Dutch for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Apple Watch.
“Users can open Proloquo2Go and begin to use it for effective communication immediately” – Susan Berkowitz, MS-SLP, AAC Consultant.
• Crescendo™, a complete research-based core word vocabulary with 10,000+ fringe words
• Quickly and easily customizable – everything from the vocabulary to the appearance
• Designed for a range of fine-motor and visual skills with options like 23 pre-programmed grid sizes
• Use your regional vocabulary and accent with British, Australian and American English, Parisian and Canadian French, Castilian and American Spanish, and Dutch and Flemish. The app also supports bilingual use, and you can even switch languages mid-sentence
• 100 natural-sounding free voices across all languages, including children’s voices
Proloquo2Go puts the user’s development first with features based on clinical knowledge and user research. Studies show that just 200-400 words make up 80% of what we say – known as core words. Combined with best practices like modeling, teaching core words has been shown to grow language and communication skills. Our Crescendo™ vocabulary is based on this insight and puts core words front and center for easy access.
Grows communication skills
Proloquo2Go is one of the few AAC apps designed to support all users, from beginning to advanced. This lets someone develop from single words to full grammatical sentences in the same app. With over 10,000 words available, there’s no limit on what you can say. Our Progressive Language feature reveals words step by step. This helps communicators learn words and their location as their vocabulary gradually grows.
Research has shown that consistent placement of objects supports easy recognition, known as motor planning. With this in mind, Proloquo2Go's thematic templates keep core words in the same places throughout the vocabulary. This helps communicators by reducing time wasted trying to find words.
Easy customization and accessibility
Buttons, pages, navigation and access - the whole app is customizable. With just a few taps, you can make it suit both vocabulary and accessibility needs. For the most important things to you, you can add your own buttons. The app comes with more than 25,000 symbols for new words – but you can use your own photos too. Accessibility settings support scanning and Apple’s VoiceOver, for users with fine-motor challenges and vision impairments. These make the app work with how you’re comfortable using it.
We’re there for you every step of the way. Help articles in the app are there whenever you need them. New to AAC? Our website has background resources in the Learn AAC section, and the AssistiveWare Core Word Classroom includes activities for teaching AAC effectively. You can also connect directly with our AAC community on our Facebook groups. If you have any questions, our support team is available 7 days a week, and is happy to help.

This update makes Proloquo2Go even more versatile and easy to use through new audio, customization and sharing options.
We’ve added new volume options like a shout function. The maximum volume for voices can now be made noticeably louder. This comes in handy in noisy and busy environments, especially if you don’t have external speakers. You can now also record your own sounds for each button - for sound effects, a special noise or emotion, and more.
Adding your own recording is just one of the new ways to customize the buttons. We’ve added new symbols requested by users to our library and made it easier to see the full list symbols library, so you have much more choice and can better match new words you add. We’ve also made it easier to edit a word’s pronunciation, right from the button’s edit mode.
Sharing is now easier too, as we’ve added AirDrop functionality to sharing your backups, folders or individual buttons. This means you can pass these along to any Apple device in your vicinity, without signing up for another service like Dropbox.
A few little extras
Adding to these major features, we made a few small changes which we hope will really improve your experience. We revamped our in-app help section to make it much easier to navigate and understand. We also improved the Search function, so that it includes all inflections and tenses in the pop-ups. And finally, we made it possible to remove the Home button in the bottom toolbar, since many of our users report accidentally touching it.
This version also fixes a few minor bugs.
We hope that you enjoy this update, and thanks for using our app!
Ratings and Reviews
Great communication app! Best investment I ever made for my daughters with Autism. Worth every penny!!
Very simple to manage!
This app is extremely versatile. You can use a library of pictures, take pictures from within the app, and even choose photos from your device’s album. There are multiple voices avail which you can customize the characteristics of each. You can make it as simple or complex as you want. We started with just a few icons for our cognitively disabled son and gradually increased the grid to (currently) like 6x8 grid of icons. He knows it’s layout better than we do.
This is an awesome app with awesome support both through developer and a Facebook users support page! I highly recommend this app.
If you feel your iPad is not loud enough with a protective case, there are amplified iPad cases you can buy elsewhere.
This app offers a voice for those who can’t speak.
Developer Response ,
Hi Games1st, we are very sorry to hear about your frustration and disappointment with Proloquo2Go. We are here to work with you and support you in your use of Proloquo2Go and implementing AAC into your daily life. Please know that it is still possible to use photos from your device's photo library in Proloquo2Go without Dropbox. We added Dropbox support in Proloquo2Go 3 so that people could save backups to the cloud-based service and use photos stored in their Dropbox account. Note that while you can purchase a subscription to Dropbox for more storage, the basic Dropbox account is free and includes 2GB of storage, which is enough for most people to save backups. As it sounds like you may have been using an older version of Proloquo2Go and recently updated, you may want to check out this article on getting underway with Proloquo2go (https://www.assistiveware.com/blog/are-you-new-to-proloquo2go-start-here). We also have a new Proloquo2Go Help section (https://www.assistiveware.com/support/proloquo2go/help-overview) that provides a simple and easy introduction to the app and its features. Finally, for family members and professionals, we offer a Learn AAC section (https://www.assistiveware.com/learn-aac) that features articles on implementing AAC in day-to-day living, ideas to promote independent communication, and suggestions for overcoming roadblocks that many people who use AAC encounter. Please feel free to email us at email@example.com if you have questions about Proloquo2Go or are looking for resources on AAC. Many of our team members are parents of Proloquo2Go users and are always happy to help people on their AAC journeys. :-)
