The new “shush” for me

martinisoft

Just upgraded my at home audio setup which includes an XLR mic with no physical mute switch. Initially wanted to go for Shush, but that was woefully out of date for my High Sierra Mac. Stumbled across this app and it fits the bill beautifully. Three things I’d like to see in the future of this app:

- AppleScript Dictionary to allow automation via Alfred and Automator in case I don’t want to use hotkeys (and option to disable hotkeys if you go this route)
- More flexibility with hotkeys to allow any key or keys to be bound to the toggle if you want to enable hotkeys
- Menu toggle mode. This would allow you to click the mic icon at the top to mute/unmute instead of a hotkey or automation. You’d have to have the app show up on the dock to give you access to preferences if you enable this.

Keep up the great work dev and please keep it up to date with the latest OSX releases.

Tentatively Good

cipherblox

I originally downloaded this a few months ago and it worked perfectly… except, for whatever reason, it was creating a huge battery impact. I uninstalled it, but was happy to see that the developer continued to release updates. Having just reinstalled it now, I can report that, thus far, there is no tangible impact on the battery and the system resource usage seems in line with the apps purpose.

blips

Jdkfocowvtvdixpsbebbdkzhwb

This is garbage software. Every 10 seconds there is a blip from the microphone even if you are not pressing any of the key bindings. So if you walk away from your computer while it is in push-to-talk mode, every 10 seconds it'll transmit sound for a few milliseconds. This is extremely annoying to people in video conferences and defeats the whole point of using it. I am going to try and return it for being completely unusable.

NOTE: this also happens in always muted mode, toggle mode, and push to mute mode. Whenever this app mutes your mic, every 10 second it allows a blip through.. so stupid.
