I love this so, so much.
I was completely ecstatic when I found out that there existed a Python IDE for the iPhone. Now I have Python in my pocket, in my reach, at all times. Complex problems that I could never hope to do in my head are no match for the computational power of Python, which I can pull out any time I need to make a difficult decision based on probabilistic information, perform tedious string operations, make a simple game, or just otherwise have fun. I feel so much more *powerful* knowing that this is on my iPhone.
I prefer this over the other IDEs because its keyboard is easy to use, and it has lots of useful packages that I can use to accomplish things (that the other ones don't have), including ones that involve the touchscreen, as demonstrated. Its program storage and organization methods are also pretty neat, and I like the extra IDE-type features, like those that allow me to jump to specific functions.
I sort of wish it were updated to 3.3, but it's not a big deal. I don't find anything else wrong with it. I thought that the top keyboard did not include square or curly brackets, but actually you just have to hold the key down. I like that implementation a lot.
Broken, but 5 stars because...
This app is fantastic! Since the most recent 7.0.4 iOS update, typing nearly freezes my iPad mini. However, these developers have consistently delivered such expertise, professionalism and attention to detail that I have full faith in a working update ASAP. It's worth the wait because the interface is genius, we're surprised with huge new features every update, and the whole thing is dripping with forethought and decades of experience. Bravo!
Pythonista locks up on my non-retina 16Gb iPad Mini when I type in the editor :( The iPad experience has been a blast, good luck and hurry up with the fix you guys because I was just getting into it!
An essential app
I've been blown away by this wonderful application, not only can I play with the standard library, It also comes with a great collection of additional libraries to extend your programs. The first small script I wrote was a simple web page parser which used Requests to grab the webpage and BeautifulSoup to query the data. I can honestly say that watching my iPhone scrape a webpage felt a little like magic. Awesome program, a great addition to any Python developer.
