Qingwen is an extremely focused and streamlined Chinese-English and English-Chinese dictionary designed with the Chinese reader in mind. Lookup is fast and easy, with just one search field which takes anything you throw at it - 汉字, Pinyin or English - and gives you the most relevant results.
Students learning Chinese can use the word lists feature to keep track of dictionary entries for future reference. Each entry also has links to related entries and example sentences to show the word being used in context.
Both Mandarin and Cantonese are fully supported for search, display and audio playback.
Qingwen is powered by data from CC-CEDICT and Tatoeba.org.
NOTE: An active internet connection is required for the audio playback feature.

New version even better! By far the best dictionary out there
The new Qingwen app upgrade made an already decent Chinese dictionary into a really GREAT dictionary. And it transformed itself into an invaluable learning tool as well.
Qinwen is sometimes overlooked due to the popularity of Pleco, but in my opinion this app beats Pleco hands down, and is worth the $4.
I purchased the Qinwen app years ago when I first started learning Chinese, and chose it for its simplicity over the Pleco app which tends to be more popular.
Back then there were a few features it was lacking though. But the new version adds them. Like the ability to create a sentence for you from words you look up. The fact that this app is able to make sentences out of words you look up is invaluable as a learner. It puts those words into a real context. You NEED this if you actually want to use the words. But what was amazing, is that the designers had the foresight to allow users to then see what each word in a given sentence means, and then make new sentences out of those words. This feature is huge, you can now use the app to explore words and their uses instead of just looking up words…. Keep moving this direction and Qingwen has the ability to really set itself apart from the growing crowd of Chinese apps.
This app made my life so much easier
This has been not only the most efficient and useful translator since I moved to China, but probably the most useful app on my phone. Some friends use other translators (usually free) but the search results are not as relevant and not as simply navigable. Whenever I saw a sign or heard a word I didn't understand, I'd use the iOS Chinese handwriting or put in the pinyin, clicked on the word so it automatically saved to history. Then I just went back later and reviewed the vocab, seriously easy. I now work in a Chinese company where I only communicate in Chinese and passed the HSK 5 a while ago and I still use this app. The only problem I had was clicking through sentences and words to see its meaning, to the next one and so on down the rabbit hole. Going back to the original search page was a pain, but I'd hardly call this a problem. I'm glad I wasn't a cheapskate when I bought it.
No ability to backup or restore. If you are using QingWen 请问没机会被分。
One of the unique capacities of Qingwen is their WORD LIST. this is where you can create a category of words and save them to your award List. However, There is no ability to backup, your Word Lists. Qingwen should incorporate a BACKUP capability. If your iPad, iPhone or Touch crashes, and you need to do a RESET, all of your Word List files are lost forever. Imagine all of your Word List that you spend two years building, lost and gone. Also, if you are using QingWen on different Apple devices, iPad, iPhone, Touch, like I am, QingWen will not sync on any of your devices. All of your Apple devices will have its own separate and independent Word Lists. A simple solution is for the QingWen to incorporate the "iCloud." for backup, syncing, etc. Or allow the Word List data to be downloaded as a text file to the iMac and re-uploaded into any iPad, iPhone and Touch. KTdict+C-E has these iCloud Backup and storage capacities. KT will personally respond to your email inquiries too. QingWen has never responded to email from me, or my friends. For these reasons, I give QingWen a low rating.
