"It’s super simple and a real breath of fresh air." —TechCrunch
"This is the future of mobile news, as Quartz envisions it." —Wired

Quartz's news app puts the entire global economy in your pocket.

It's an ongoing conversation about the news, sort of like texting. We'll send you messages, photos, GIFs, and links, and you can decide when you're interested in reading more. Each session lasts just a few minutes, so it's perfect for the train, elevator, grocery store line, or wherever you have a spare moment.

And here's the secret about our little news bot: It's written by humans! Smart journalists who want to keep you informed and entertained.

It's pretty simple. Here are some other features:
• Notifications that are relevant and fun. You decide which alerts to receive, and we won't buzz your phone unless it's really, really important.
• Sometimes our notifications also come with photos, charts, animated GIFs, or other media attached to them. Pretty crazy.
• On the Today screen, view our most interesting chart of the moment.
• Apple Watch owners, gauge the markets with an emoji on your watch face.
• No more news? Relax. We'll give you a quiz or something else to do.

This app is a new way to read the news that's really made for your phone. We hope you like it. Let us know what you think at Thanks!

What's New in Version 1.4.0

We all need an occasional break from the news. Now, you can give yourself a 24-hour timeout from US political news with the tap of a new button in the app called Trump Snooze.

When you're snoozing, we'll skip any news items or notifications about the man whose outsized personality and historic presidency have dominated headlines and, at times, crowded out everything else important that's going on in the world. (But, don't worry: Really important news will still come through, at the discretion of our editors, even if you're snoozing.)

The idea of Trump Snooze is to give you a quick break from the relentless news cycle surrounding the US president. Many of you asked for such a feature: "less Trump!" was a consistent theme in our recent survey of readers. We think it's still important to follow American politics, so Trump Snooze will only work for 24 hours at a time. Then it's back to the news cycle. But if you choose to take a break for a day, enjoy it!

Interesting idea, but feels incomplete

Look, I get it. Chat bots are hot right now and everyone wants a more engaging experience. I get it. For me, however, this app falls flat. I think that when it comes to news, I need to be able to really explore and consume content. I need to understand hierarchy, explore different categories, filter articles, save stories, and more. I think that the chat bot feels like a nice feature, but does not feel strong enough to carry an entire app. If instead the app was a news feed, perhaps similar to a FB news feed, and you could access the chat bot (maybe a similar execution to the FB messenger button in the FB app at the top right), I'd be more satisfied with the experience. Essentially, I think the chat bot could be more integrated into a fuller experience where I'm not tied to just hitting replies to a computer. Overall, this a cool idea, but it feels incomplete.

Great content, love new Trump snooze

I love the personality this app injects into the news. It makes it more entertaining - like a super knowledgeable friend telling you the news. It's also super bitesized so you can cover a lot of stories really quickly.

I didn't snooze my Trump because it's easy enough to just skip when I don't want to hear it in your app. But I love the idea of the feature - you having offered that makes me want to use this app more and see what you do next!

Best writers ever / hawking most relevant news / with funniest gifs.

This is the first app I have required my two young sons (10 & 12) to get on their phones. I find it an incredibly useful tool for engaging the whole family in current events; it's also excellent practice for critical reading & thinking about media. Not to mention hip, cool & fun.
