"It’s super simple and a real breath of fresh air." —TechCrunch
"This is the future of mobile news, as Quartz envisions it." —Wired
Quartz's news app puts the entire global economy in your pocket.
It's an ongoing conversation about the news, sort of like texting. We'll send you messages, photos, GIFs, and links, and you can decide when you're interested in reading more. Each session lasts just a few minutes, so it's perfect for the train, elevator, grocery store line, or wherever you have a spare moment.
And here's the secret about our little news bot: It's written by humans! Smart journalists who want to keep you informed and entertained.
It's pretty simple. Here are some other features:
• Notifications that are relevant and fun. You decide which alerts to receive, and we won't buzz your phone unless it's really, really important.
• Sometimes our notifications also come with photos, charts, animated GIFs, or other media attached to them. Pretty crazy.
• On the Today screen, view our most interesting chart of the moment.
• Apple Watch owners, gauge the markets with an emoji on your watch face.
• No more news? Relax. We'll give you a quiz or something else to do.
This app is a new way to read the news that's really made for your phone. We hope you like it. Let us know what you think at email@example.com. Thanks!
What's New in Version 1.2.4
Happy new year! We had a great 2016 in the App Store, and really appreciate everyone who has used the app, offered feedback, and spread the word to others. Here's to a lot more to come in 2017.
This is a minor update to fix things we hope you didn't even realize were wrong. Among other changes, tapping links to Twitter and YouTube should work better now, and the markets haiku should actually show up in our Watch app. So if your new year's resolution was to get more information about the stock market in the form of poetry on your wrist, we've got you covered. If you have other ambitions, stay tuned.
Really great concept; want more content
The chat concept is awesome. I love being able to read more or move on, and it's written in a conversational tone, so even heavier subjects don't make me feel like the world is ending (which I appreciate these days). I've probably read more on topics I never would have clicked on normally. Only complaint is that when I get a notification that looks interesting but I don't have time to check it, when I come back later the app doesn't serve those earlier stories to me. And I frequently want more stories when it says "that's all." Not enough of a complaint to keep me from using the app - it's got me to reading the news when I used to avoid news like the plague. But there's room for improvement. Maybe "do you want to read about what happened earlier today?"
Great app! Wish it wouldn't freeze often
Hey guys, tremendous app you've made here and the UI is spot on. I enjoy getting my news in a conversational manner with links right there for the sources! Wow!
Just one unfortunate problem here gang, the thing freezes up faster than me trying to address more than two people at once! And I mean wow, that's a feat because I have the sociability level of a burnt stick. Once it finishes loading the story it will fail to load the next conversation piece, or notify me that there are no more stories, etc. Not that big of a problem, but if you could fix it that'd be tremendous!
Nice flow|Would like to see a layout change
The flow of the chat-like news function enables easy reading: the messages basically function like paragraphs, which is a simple but effective trick to make the reading easier.
The only critiques I have are that I'd like to see a conversation map on the "home screen" that allows me a choice in where I start, with the map opening into the same conversation-style news communication. The other is the mandatory emojis. Not a huge fan. But that, I realize, is purely a personal preference.
