QuickNFO is a simple viewer application for .nfo files.
In contrast to other nfo viewers, QuickNFO does not require font files or anything else to be installed. The nfo text can be exported as HTML or unicode TXT, so it can be viewed on machines that don't have QuickNFO installed (via the File -> Save To command).
In addition, QuickNFO provides a QuickLook plugin that previews the file contents directly from the Finder. It supports both the creation of icon thumbnails and the (space key activated) QuickLook preview. The QuickLook feature is automatically activated if QuickNFO is defined as the default program to open nfo files.
What's New in Version 1.1
Added Preferences panel to set foreground and background color, font size and added the option to automatically quit QuickNFO when the last window is closed.
Works for me
A previous reviewer mentions the QuickLook for NFOs feature not working in Lion. Works fine for me in Lion, not sure why they are having a problem with it. It displays just fine and it pops up quickly too.
One minor quibble: The app launches with a window that is smaller than I would like, and it doesn't maintain a resized window between launches. If the app maintained window size between launches, or sized the window more appropriately based on display settings and the info in the NFO file, it would be a bit slicker.
Summary: 5 stars, it works and works right every time. No more, no less.
Pros: Very small app, no extra features, does exactly what it says it does and does it right, there is an option in the preferences to quit the program upon window close. Works perfectly.
Cons: Two dollars just to read NFO files? Most people don't have a need for such a app and those who do will have to pay.
It's nice and simple, but the quicklook feature is rather slow. It's faster to just open it with this app. To it's credit, it does open fast though.
