"Wildcards" are TERRIBLE
I hadn't used QuizUp in a while, and when I opened the app it said I needed to update it (I don't have auto-updates on). I did, and when I went to play a game, I was surprised to find these "wildcard" questions shoved in my game. Now, that's not that bad in itself, but it is completely obvious that they only included these questions as a shameful cash-grab. You can use "gems" to shuffle the random topics or skip the wildcard questions- but we all know that whenever you run out of "gems" or whatever in an app, that can only mean one thing- in-app purchases. Now, I understand if QuizUp needed to make some more money, but I do not believe this was a good way to do this. They could have set up a "Donate to QuizUp" system, or at least created an In-app purchase system that doesn't screw up the fundamental mechanics of the game I used to like. I wanted to play QuizUp, not Trivia Crack. But now I want to play neither. Not to mention that there's a "skip wildcard by watching video option"- I did that because I didn't want to spend the Gems- but it DIDN'T EVEN WORK AND MADE ME SPEND THE GEMS ANYWAY. I am sad to say that I am deleting QuizUp now.
New version terrible endless adds
I haven't played Quiz Up for a while and used to love it, but after being forced to update I am going to delete it! First of all not happy I had to create a new account and all my previous progress was lost. New version makes you watch an add just about every 20 seconds and the time the adds are playing is much longer than game play. You are forced to answer "wildcard" questions out of the topic you're in which is frustrating and pointless because it makes progress impossibly slow all to try to get you to buy your way out of watching all the adds. I'm answering questions on a tv show, of course my round will be derailed by a wildcard about the periodic table or a movie I have never seen in my life?! Overall used to be a great app and now just frustrating and terrible.
After taking a hiatus from QuizUp, I recently had the hankering to play. I expected some changes in the game, and prepared myself for a bit of a learning curve when it came to navigating menus and perhaps new game types or categories. What I did not expect was being bombarded by ads after every single game and while navigating menus.
No big deal, though-I loved the game enough to purchase the ad-free version.
The "Wildcard" bit is what frustrates me, though. I miss being able to challenge myself and try to become a master in any given category without having a wrench thrown into my plans of world domination.
Sure, you can skip wild cards or shuffle them by purchasing gems, but it's a poorly executed feature/money grab scheme.
The menus have become a bit confusing to navigate. I used to be able to search for my Facebook friends playing the game, but can't seem to do that anymore. I am still learning the menus, so not going to dock any stars for this.
Overall, I hope the designers and developers can come up with a better way to present the game to loyal players.
