Good, but not great.
Rayman Fiesta Run is a good game. There's no questioning that. But it's not as good as Jungle Run. As far as a sequel goes, it improves ALMOST everything. The production values are higher for sure, these are some of the best graphics I've seen for an app. Problem is, this is a GAME. Not an art project. And this is one of the most automated games I've ever played. Games like these (not endless runners I guess) are usually really loose when it comes to player control, but Jesus. There is very little player interaction and the whole thing just feels a lot like a King or Popcap game. Forcing Facebook interaction, lots of grinding and saving up points, really sudden difficulty spike, it's all here. Like I said, there's a lot to love here. And the fact that a few of you even got this for free is just another reason to love it, but it's hard to ignore how lazy this game can be sometimes. That said, there are some really good ideas here, like plane jumping not unlike Mutant Mudds or Xeodrifter, lots of replayability and a great soundtrack, but it's not all like that. Meh, I'm not complaining too much am I?
Good game but...
I have a few qualms, mostly with the style of the game. I've never played a Rayman game before (outside of a demo for the Wii u game) but I have read enough about it to have a grasp on the universe. That being said I don't really understand why Rayman is in a world made up of giant foods with (stereotypically sounding) Mexican music playing. Also every now and then the controls feel a bit bothersome. For example: When I unlocked the glide move I didn't realize it until I had killed myself with it because I had been holding the jump button down as a habit from console games to extend my jump. If the glide could be changed to being a second "tap"instead of gliding while I'm holding the button down it would be better I think.
Fiesta Run is really good. Perfect for touch. Level design is truly amazing. The artwork and the art design is just perfect for a mobile Rayman game I think.
I haven't played too much of the game yet, but the controls are simple, which makes perfect sense for a game built on touch. You feel included in the fiesta party as you play through these lively party levels. The music goes well with the art direction and level design which I'm very high on anytime I play a game on mobile or console. If the music is good, I'm completely immersed in the world that has been created.
The little animations for each character definitely shows that the devs spent a good amount of time ensuring that each character had its own personality. I haven't played any other Rayman games prior, but they've done an amazing job with creating this whole personality with the world. Jumping animations and creating different animations for different running, jumping, swinging animations are things I admire about great games.
I'll be spending a ton of time on this game moving forward.
