Ratings and Reviews
We’re blown away by the newest installment of EA’s popular racing franchise. We found ourselves gawking at reflections, lens flare, and scenery as we motored through hairpin turns at breakneck speeds. The improvements aren't just cosmetic, though—you'll find yourself stunned by the believable roars of engines and the huge variety of true-to-life cars and courses. RR3 also packs great new gameplay features like Time Shifted Multiplayer, which allows us to race asynchronously against friends in fierce tests of driving prowess.
Rework the physics and it’s a winner.
Newer iPhones are getting to be real powerhouses. Take advantage of that. The graphics are fine the way they are, but the physics need to be worked on a bit. It’s kind of annoying that the only way you know your tires are approaching their grip limit is by horrendous oversteer that, I must admit, is easy to correct. You can’t push your car to the limit for a lap time without fear of losing all of your speed through a corner because of unrealistic sliding, understeer would be more befitting. It’s either that, or you increase the sense of speed with motion blur or what have you. Everything feels stagnant even at high speed and that makes one more likely to take a corner thinking they’re going slower than they actually are then fly off the circuit. Furthermore, getting back to what had been previously mentioned in the beginning, you guys should take advantage of 3D Touch. I believe that makes modulation of the throttle and brakes possible. I would recommend that highly. Now, being a subsidiary of EA now, I wouldn’t expect you guys at firemonkey to reduce reliance on ads or buying gold to get the cars that matter and reduce service times as EA is full of fat profit hungry pigs, but it would be great if you could try. Otherwise, Real Racing 3 is a great game, but please, at least try to implement throttle and brake modulation as well as a revised physics engine in Real Racing 4. That game is long due, RR3 is approaching 6 years old now.
Best if you have deep pockets.
I won’t lie, the game is a lot of fun and very addicting. But you better be a near racing pro or have really deep pockets if you want to play and compete against other players. You win “in game currency” by winning races, and if your really good, you can get by on that for a while. But as you get deeper into the game (and more addicted), they start wanting more and more of your real money. You need money (either in-game currency or real money) to buy the cars you have to have to race with on each progressing level, then buy the expensive upgrades to either remain eligible to race at that level and/or match up to the speed and handling of the other players, you need (your own real) money to make each car a VIP in order to speed up the repairs you have to have so your car can keep up with others, the list just goes on and on. I blew a ton of my own money earlier this month because I loved the game and started having difficulty in passing some levels, but even if you fully upgrade one car, that upgraded car might not be eligible to play the next race, so you have to spend more on your next car, over and over again. Like I said, if you’re really good and can win enough of their in-game currency, you’ll do fine. But unless you’re a pro you’ll find that it takes more money than you can earn and they want more and more of YOUR cash to continue playing. That’s what frustrates me the most.
