Ratings and Reviews
We’re blown away by the newest installment of EA’s popular racing franchise. We found ourselves gawking at reflections, lens flare, and scenery as we motored through hairpin turns at breakneck speeds. The improvements aren't just cosmetic, though—you'll find yourself stunned by the believable roars of engines and the huge variety of true-to-life cars and courses. RR3 also packs great new gameplay features like Time Shifted Multiplayer, which allows us to race asynchronously against friends in fierce tests of driving prowess.
Best if you have deep pockets.
I won’t lie, the game is a lot of fun and very addicting. But you better be a near racing pro or have really deep pockets if you want to play and compete against other players. You win “in game currency” by winning races, and if your really good, you can get by on that for a while. But as you get deeper into the game (and more addicted), they start wanting more and more of your real money. You need money (either in-game currency or real money) to buy the cars you have to have to race with on each progressing level, then buy the expensive upgrades to either remain eligible to race at that level and/or match up to the speed and handling of the other players, you need (your own real) money to make each car a VIP in order to speed up the repairs you have to have so your car can keep up with others, the list just goes on and on. I blew a ton of my own money earlier this month because I loved the game and started having difficulty in passing some levels, but even if you fully upgrade one car, that upgraded car might not be eligible to play the next race, so you have to spend more on your next car, over and over again. Like I said, if you’re really good and can win enough of their in-game currency, you’ll do fine. But unless you’re a pro you’ll find that it takes more money than you can earn and they want more and more of YOUR cash to continue playing. That’s what frustrates me the most.
Just not a game for mobile
While this game is beautiful, the mechanics of the game are just unbearable. Being on an iPhone, I find much trouble in simply driving due to the fact that I can not drive smoothly. From my experiences, I can only use the throttle 100% to the floor, or not at all. This makes for some huge problems when going into turns. Since I can’t maintain a consistent speed through turns, I lose my race line for nothing and can’t over take other drivers either. If I even touch the throttle, the game thinks I’m flooring it and I get ridiculous snap oversteer and waste the race. The brakes are the same way. I end up locking up my brakes a lot and going into the ditch when going into a turn because I can’t transfer weight appropriately. While the steering isn’t like that, it is not as precise as it could be. I find my self with either not enough turn-in to a corner, or way too much, which causes snap oversteer. I can’t find a balance even when adjusting settings. The driver aids are not very useful either. The traction control isn’t even that. The game just starts braking for you when you get wheel spin.
However, this game does have a lot of things to do, just don’t think you’re going to bench this game. “Repairs” is just a stood money grab. I can go a completely clean race and still have “repairs” to do for my car. I don’t need those kind of lies.
Conclusion, this game is a little satisfying at best, and very frustrating at worst.
