Ratings and Reviews
Whether you love movies, kittens, science, kittens, politics, or kittens, Reddit’s official app puts all this (plus kittens) at your fingertips. With a colorful and intuitive layout, it’s easy to browse and post to “the front page of the Internet” across thousands of subreddits that cater to virtually every area of interest. Search for communities that line up with your hobbies; filter posts by posting time, hotness, and more; and get a breakdown of your own Redditing history to see where you reaped all that sweet, sweet karma. (Protip: you can’t go wrong with pictures of—you guessed it—kittens.)
Great app, but terrible new font
This is one of the few apps I love and use several times daily. I have this app since I started using Reddit, around a year ago. Reddit was a whole new experience for me, with the best content from the web, and discussions to go along with it. Since then, I have used the app for news on my favorite topics/interests, viewing fascinating and informative images/videos, and whatnot. The app itself is quite responsive and easy to use. Navigating is a breeze, and the layout is clean.
However, upon opening the app tonight, I noticed something was different with the text. It was only when I opened the App Store that I realized the font had been changed. With this update, the font has been changed from San Francisco (the default for iOS/macOS) to a new font. As people have pointed out in reviews, the new font severely impacts readability and affects the whole app in a negative way. The previous font was perfect, and I don't know why it had to be replaced with a new font that makes reading text much harder. Seriously. If anyone involved is reading this, please revert to the old, default font (San Francisco). Alternatively, you could provide the option to choose from different fonts in the app.
Remember, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I don’t want to use your app
I don’t want to use this app. I use Apollo because it’s more well designed and I prefer it in every way. Unfortunately, I used to use Alien Blue until Reddit took it over and shoved it’s annoying features in and essentially broke the previously well-bridged gap between users and developers. Apollo came along and solved that problem for me. I decided to rate this poorly because, besides the fact that I hate the mechanics and design of the app, I’m sick of the many shoehorned aspects of mobile browser Reddit forcing me into the app. I have to go through several steps to use it normally and ultimately I can’t view most comments without having to copy a link and move it to Apollo since Reddit decided to force users into their own app as the default. Crippling competing developers to promote your own app is obnoxious, obtrusive ads and constant “will you rate your experience?” prompts are obnoxious, and frankly the way Reddit approached the official app launch alongside breaking Alien Blue and then shoehorning the official app onto users has driven me to never choose the official app at all, even if it underwent a total overhaul. I really don’t care what Reddit does with the official app at this point, because shoving it down the throats of users tells me the app and its developers should not be supported. Very annoying app 0/10 I hate it.
