Description

------------------------------------

Robot Master is an easy to learn puzzle game from the mind of award-winning game designer, Dr. Reiner Knizia.

How does it play? Take turns placing numbered cards down on a 5 x 5 grid to score lines both vertically and horizontally. The scores for each line are determined by the sum of the cards. Here's an example:

(1 + 2 + 4 + 5 + 0) would score 12 points.

Sounds easy, right? Well, here's a couple of twists:

First, pairs of cards anywhere in the line count 10x their face value. Here's an example:

(1 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 0) would score 25 points.

Second, triple cards anywhere in the line count 100 points regardless of face value. Here's an example:

(0 + 1 + 2 + 0 + 0) would score 103 points.

That's all there is to it but remember that your final score is only your lowest scoring line, and you want the highest score possible!

So build evenly and don't neglect weak lines...

Extremely addictive, quick to play, challenging to master

One of the most addictive puzzle games I've found on the iPhone, Robot Master has a simple game mechanic that is challenging to master. The graphics are great, and the gameplay is fast enough that you can finish a few games while waiting for a bus. The game's basic premise is to place cards on a 5x5 grid such that you get a high score. The score for the game is determined by the lowest scoring row or column, which makes the game tricky since strategically you can't ignore any part of the grid. Cards are numbered 0-5 and on their own, count for their face value. Pairs count as face-value * 10 and triples count for 100 points. Keeping track of your own score is kinda buried right now, but the developer mentioned on twitter that the next update will fix this. To find it, Go to the high score table by clicking the trophy icon on the screen where you choose what type of game to play. Your own scores and averages are listed below the global high scores. This is an important update because the high score table doesn't get reset, and it's tough to crack. I only have myself to compete against until I get better :P The multiplayer game is kind of easy to win against the AI. I haven't played against a human yet, but I have a feeling the single-player mode is the real winner here. Basically this game is like sudoku for people with brains. At 99 cents it's a steal.

Simply FANTASTIC!

Once again, Reiner Knizia has created a delightful, easy to learn game that is both fun and challenging! I have been a huge fan of Mr. Knizia's games over the years, owning many of his creations (POISON! is my favorite RK game). I can be certain that when I see "Reiner Knizia" on a game title, it will ALWAYS be fun! I HIGHLY recommend this game to everyone! Well worth the price tag! 5 STARS!!!

Not Knizia's Best

I have to admit, I found Robot Master to be rather dull. Like many of Knizia's other games, such as Poison, it is a rather simple calculation game with a thin layer of aesthetics across the top. Very quickly players find the minmax strategy and the challenge of the game is to pursue that strategy within the randomness of the tile draws. Certainly not a bad game, but just not inspiring.
