TUAW Review: "Serious board game fans have been anxiously waiting for this app ever since it was announced and I'm happy to say that this latest Reiner Knizia port to the digital realm is totally worth the wait."
Through the Desert is one of the best known games by legendary board game designer Dr. Reiner Knizia. In this masterpiece of the light strategy genre, up to four players compete for control over the desert.
The game is quick to learn and relies on very simple rules. At the same time, it has an enormous depth - similar to board game classics like Go and Reversi.
Through the Desert fits excellently on an iPad, allowing up to four players to play on the same device. If you need additional challenges, the game also includes artificial intelligence players and allows you to challenge your friends over the net.

Solid game that is just like the tabletop version.
This is a good, solid game of strategy that is simple and abstract. Fun! I think it could be improved by the following however:
1. Add statistics for human players and let them name their player.
2. Give a "Are you sure?" message for when your placement will end the game. As it stands, it is really easy to accidentally drop a camel in the wrong spot. I've had a couple of games end prematurely just because of the touchy and fiddly nature of moving your camels from the supply to the board.
3. An undo button would be nice too!
I love playing Through The Desert, it's just as much fun and true to the original game. It's almost perfect, except at the Game Center there is never anyone to play with - I wish it would let me start a game in the Game Center and then find someone to play with, instead of having to start a game and sit there waiting and no one ever shows up, that never happens with another game I have (Ticket To Ride).
Like all of the truly great classic games (like go or chess), the complexity isn't in the move itself, but in foreseeing the future implications of the move. There is no element of chance. Each player's future is in his own hands. An outstanding strategy game.
