Description
Add some more functionality to your Tesla Motors Model S & Model X vehicle with the new Remote S app.
Features currently exclusive to the Remote S app:
- Fully functional Apple Watch app
- 3D Touch menu for quick commands from the Home Screen
- Start car with Touch ID without needing a password (can be disabled)
- Opens, connects, and issues commands faster than the Tesla app
- Avoid fees from Tesla: Alarm sounds when the car has completed charging at the Supercharger
- Set an alarm when charging reaches a certain kW or % level
- Camp Mode allows you to keep the HVAC on in the car even though there is no activity. Normally, the car will turn off HVAC after 30 minutes.
- Trigger HomeLink even if the car is plugged in, not in PARK, or you are not near the car
- Display battery usage (vampire drain) & instant charging rate (not the average)
- Check your firmware version remotely
- View how many miles are being used per hour
- Summon your car when not near it and without continuous press needed (autopilot required)
- remotes:// URL schema with custom commands - See 3.3.0 release notes.
- Max cool and Max heat buttons to quickly send multiple commands to your car to optimize cooling and heating
- No-Commands Mode lets you log in the app for your family/friends to monitor your Tesla's location live without allowing them to issue commands to your car.
- Breadcrumb tracking allows you to see the path that the car has recently taken.
- Trip statistics shows your current MPGe, kWh used, miles traveled, kWh per 100 miles, cost savings vs. an internal combustion engine car, cost savings over the lifetime of your car, and many more fun stats.
- Save trip routes to different save slots and compare the distance, kWh used, cost, and more for each route.
- Accurate odometer/range readout with decimal places.
- In-app browser can detect commands from javascript and html so that you can create and use a webpage to control your car
- This opens up all sorts of functionality, such as scheduling, queued commands, and repeated commands
- Consolidated stats and commands into one screen for quicker and easier access
- Start/unlock car with Apple Watch without a password
- Ability to change passenger and driver temperature settings separately instead of always together
- Estimated range is displayed (this takes the average consumption of your past 30 miles and estimates your battery range based on that past usage)
- Monitor all three ranges (estimated, rated, ideal/typical) at the same time without changing the settings in your car
Remote commands that will work on the Apple Watch and iPhone/iPad
- Unlock/lock car
- Start/Stop HVAC
- Roof control
- Temperature change
- Honk horn

Customer Reviews
Great app!
After all the time this app has been out, it remains the best Tesla app available. The developer did a great job with this app, including many features that Tesla didn't include in their own. I believe there is literally no function that Tesla's API's allow that this app doesn't have covered. Allen updates the app frequently and is extremely responsive to feedback on the forums. Lots of information on one screen and the app is super responsive; commands get to the car almost immediately (and feedback is much faster than with Tesla's app). However, while its nice to be able to do everything on one screen, the interface is a bit busy and not exactly intuitive. My only suggestion would be some kind of optional tutorial overlay to explain what everything does. (Edit: he just added this in the most recent update)
With all the updates in this version and now inclusion of 3D Touch support, I've increased my rating to 5 stars!
Great app for every Tesla Model S/X owner, even better for iWatch owners
Update: 2 years later and still 5 stars!
Tesla app looks prettier, and UI is simpler on it, though the below is still true. Virtually every Tesla owner I know uses this.
Benefits over the free Tesla App
1) More reliably, and more quickly, connects with audible indication of success / failure
2) Multiple sunroof venting positions and option to have confirmation.
3) "Camp mode" for keeping AC/heat on longer than 30mins - great if you're wanting to read/nap in car whilst charging
4) Apple Watch integration. Can truly go keyless, though ensure you park your car where internet is available ;-)
5) Frequent updates to integrate community feedback.
6) "advanced mode" (click on Remote S at top of page) enabling lots of tweaks and geek access
7) Remote Summon
Note: this app doesn't give you access to car functionality that Tesla doesn't enable. Asking for things like "opening frunk", "turn on heated seats", viewing camera/sensor status, etc isn't available to ANY apps. When new functionality is available the author of this app is very prompt at exposing new functionality quickly.
Hope this helps, Mike
Fast but could do more
Update: Added 1 more star for app speed but original thoughts below still apply. This app would easily earn 5 stars if it added features not in Tesla's free app. Examples might include:
- Setting timers based on when charging should end (not begin) would be great for long trip planning
- Automatically turning on heating/cooling based on interior temp or based on timer
I'm sure others could think of more examples. Bottom line, this is a nice app but needs to really add features to differentiate itself from the free app and justify the price.
I appreciate the speed of the app and drive that it frequently connectd to the car more quickly than Tesla's own app. That said, I was hoping it would do substantially more than the free app. Camp mode is nice but beyond that, the app doesn't seem to much else new.
In the future, I would love to see this app do more to provide data and performance analytics as a way of adding discrete value. As of now, however, this is fast but hard to use app.
