Disappointing

The entire Apple TV 4 experience has been completely disappointing; this meager app only adds to the growing discontent. I'm strongly considering going back to the old Apple TV and selling this new gen junk. I'm constantly skipping around in shows and movies because the new remote is so sensitive it jumps every time I even look at it. I have to ever so gently select each letter when typing something. I hate using it. The new TV's only saving grace is Siri. I'd hoped this app would bridge the gap between the new useless physical remote and Siri. Of course it doesn't. Of course Siri doesn't work with the updated Apple Remote app. Of course you can't access your iTunes library like you used to be able to. Why would Apple make things that convenient for people who are willing to pay the prices they charge? I gave this app 2 stars because at least I can now text instead of going through the 30-minute frustrating delicate dance of individual letter selection.

Mostly useless

Months after the Apple TV 4 release, it finally supports Apple Remote app. Except, contrary to what the description says, it doesn't have the same support as Appke TV 3: you can't browse your iTunes library within the app. The only thing it supports with the Appke TV 4 is pretty much the same functionality as the Touch Remote, plus text entry. It doesn't support browsing the library and selecting the music or movies you want to play: you have to use the app just the same way you'd use the Touch Remote to control your Apple TV to navigate to the music or a movie you want to play.

I don't know what's going on at Apple these days, but it's not the Apple we all grew to love and respect. Releasing unfinished products, with severely limited functionality - much worse than the older products - is not something I'm sure Steve Jobs would have allowed.

At this point I have switched back to Apple TV 3 and am contemplating getting a Roku. Apple TV 4 is crap, and I don't believe Apple is ever going to address its shortcomings.

Doesn't support Apple TV 4!

I have used this app for almost 3 years with the Apple TV 2-3 and have grown to rely on it and love it in the past. I am a huge Apple fan And I recently upgraded to the Apple TV 4, only to find out apple didn't bother to set up their companion remote app to work with the new Apple TV.
Like most people, I use remote app for the ease of swiping on my iPad to control Apple TV, but also to quickly search and type using the remote keyboard without having to use a remote to click through text to search etc.
Apple, you need to fix this as soon as possible, don't turn into to Microsoft and roll out substandard products that are supposed to be updates, not fully supporting the ecosystem you get us hooked on! Your braking my heart!
