RetirePlan is an iPad app that helps you answer all your questions about your retirement. If you have questions about your retirement finances, this is the app to answer them.
When can I retire?
How much do I need to save every year?
How much money will I get every year in my retirement?
How long will my money hold out in my retirement?
In just a few seconds you can enter your data and assumptions and the graph will update to show you if your plan will work. If you have more time to spend you can enter as much detail as you want to refine your plan.
The sliders give you an easy way to see what different values will do to your plan. Need to enter a value outside the slider range? press the amount and a calculator will pop up to let you enter whatever number you need. The slider range will update automatically.
Bring up the spreadsheet to see all the details for every year of the plan.
Email your results.
Use the settings to add your spouse, include or remove Social Security, and show or hide inflation and interest rates.
Use the + button to add a pension, send a child to college, large upcoming expenses, add additional rates of return and retirement income assumptions.
include Tax assumptions to get an even more accurate picture of your future.
What's New in Version 1.15
Fixes issue with emailing in ios9. Thanks to all who emailed me about this issue!
Adds scenario name to default subject when there are more than one scenarios
Comprehensive, detailed, incredibly easy to use. The output is clear, compelling (watch your balances grow and shrink over time pre- and post-retirement, sometimes dramatically with small changes in inputs/assumptions), and presented in a variety of formats (dynamic bar chart and detailed table with input and output values for each year of remaining lifetime). The model not only shows the accumulation of savings and earnings on both tax shelterd investments and taxable returns--net any withdrawals post-retirement (and after social security is retirement income is factored in), it also takes into account required IRA distributions after age 70 1/2. You can play with inputs/assumptions and immediately see the results, and you can save different scenarios for future reference. You can include non-recurring expenditures and life events. Oh yes, and you can email results.
This is a full featured and very powerful app--way more than adequate for probably 95% of the population and useful at any age. It's more user-friendly and much more reasonably priced than anything else that I've encountered. The developer is responsive and keeps the app current with updates as needed (and even answers stupid questions with good humor and grace).
Wow, the author is so responsive. She answers every email and updates the app with every iOS update so I never have to worry about this app. This app is more full featured than anything our there! I can imagine every possibility and then change things around to try some more. It even let's me see what would happen if there was another big market crash!
I frequently adjust my plan and use the other two free plans for my parents retirement! Every field is editable and gives immediate feedback when I use it to see what my retirement will look like.
Super fast and easy to use
Nicely constructed modeling tool for retirement planning. I use this app a lot. It seems pretty robust. Plus, it's super easy to use: test differing assumptions and instantly see changes.
It's been a few months since my original review. In the meantime I've met with a couple of human financial advisors and, frankly, I've gotten more value out of Retire Plan than either of the advisors.
