Needs better navigation system
All in all, this game has plenty of potential. Exploring the area is enjoyable and the puzzles, hat few of hem there are, are taxing and interesting. Much of this is defeated, however by the games crippling navigation system. Probably about 60% of my time playing this game (and I did play all the way to the end of the current update) was spent moving about in circles just trying to find my way back to a specific door or passage way I had come through only moments earlier.
There are so many needless and useless screens in the game that trying to muddle around becomes the games biggest puzzle and ongoing joke. The clincher is that this would be so easy to fix. All the developers need to do is make their areas with fewer useless, headache inducing vistas, viewpoints, and passages. I do not need to look up and down at every single position, especially when. Doing so does more to disorient me then it does to help.
Suffice to say, this could be a good game and an excellent throwback to the good ole point and click adventure game glory days but until the navigation issue is addressed your better off with the classics ( myst, riven, 7th guest) instead.
I really WANT to love this game
I'm dying for more Myst style FP style puzzle adventure games on the iOS. There's far too many of the hidden object games that masquerade as Myst style puzzle games. The Room was probably the best at emulating that style of Myst game, particularly with the atmosphere.
So imagine my excitement with seeing RiddenHurst. The developers heart is in the right place here, but the execution and art style leave a lot to be desired sadly. The art style is hand drawn and over-saturated with blues which make things very hard to see at times. On top of that, navigation is a mess as tough to tell where you are, where you've been, etc. The perspectives are very strange and that make it hard to get yourself situated right for certain parts of puzzles. You can pan some frames, then not others, some frames pan longer than others, then you have to turn yourself to the right or left or look up or down sometimes, it's really just all over the place. They really should have just made it a 360 degree pan for each frame.
It's a nice attempt and the devs heart is in the right place, but it's kind of a mess of a game. The graphics are too muddy and controls are unwieldy for this game to be enjoyable.
I enjoyed this game. I did have to eventually use the walkthrough to find some of the puzzles and to get the puzzles done properly. I enjoyed searching for the hidden things. It didn't bother me much that it ended "to be continued". I am looking forward to more. I think the artwork is great. It is a little frustrating getting around. If the map was a little more detailed that would help. I did go the map several times and it helped a bit. I lost my way many times, but that was part of the challenge for me. As the other reviewer said, clicking on the map to go to a place you have already been would be great. ALSO seeing yourself--your present location--on the map would be great, too.
Just waiting for more….
