DRIVING TOUR ROUTE
This tour includes the most popular sightseeing stops and many more:
1) Ho'okipa Beach Park
3) Wai'anapanapa Park
5) Hamoa Beach
6) Wailua Falls
7) Seven Sacred Pools at Kipahulu plus many more great scenic stops.
We recommend giving yourself a full day to drive the Road to Hana and start as early as you can.
The tour is structured so that we concentrate on sightseeing as we drive towards Hana. Most people want to drive back without stopping, so we have all different commentary and stories for the drive back that will entertain you and pass the time more quickly.
Beware of suggestions that recommend going “the back way”. You are most likely going to be in a rental car. All the major rental car companies prohibit their cars being taken on the “back side” of Haleakala.
Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network.
++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle.
** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine.
GyPSy Guide™ produce award winning audio tours along scenic drives around the world. Enjoyed by travelers who prefer to set their own pace and itinerary on vacation, but enjoy a fun, informative and educational guided experience. Our goal is to provide a great introduction to the region and perhaps inspire you to learn more and return. None of our apps include paid advertising or placements for benefit.
If you plan to do more driving on Maui than just the Road to Hana, consider purchasing the Full Maui app as a best value option. It includes the entire Road to Hana tour too.
We’re constantly making updates and improvements to our app in order to provide the best experience possible for your sightseeing adventures.

Road to Hans
We decided to drive ourselves- we heard mixed reviews about this. Definitely must be careful as the road are narrow and one lane at times and bI personally wouldn’t want to drive them at night. So make your trip start as early as possible- the point is to see and enjoy this beautiful island!! If you want a longer trip why not spend the night in Hana.
We started a little late and took our time. The information on this app is excellent!! The recommendations totally help you pick and choose what to see. We loved a hike up to a waterfall early in the trip which was pretty tough hike!! There were definitely easier and bigger ones to see without this hike😂I don’t regret it but for sure every piece of advice on the app was excellent! This is a great way to get all the info you need in the comfort of your own car sat your own pace!! We thoroughly enjoyed listening to the history of Hawaii on the return trip. We got within 6 mi of Hana and decided to return-having seen the beauty but realizing that it gets dark fairly early. Next time maybe we will do a reverse trip to Hana and see the other end. Excellent advice and presentation in every way!!!Fun and less expensive. Follow the advice given- drive cautiously and an easy doable trip!! Loved it.
Loved all the stops- a tad disappointed with the marketplace stop for food. Found it average or less than average. Coffee there great!!

Thanks for saying the app had excellent advice and presentation. Disappointed you gave it a 2 ** rating. Sounds like you are giving the Road to Hana trip 2 stars, not the app.
So Glad We Used this App!
I found this app through a recommendation from a blog post about the Road to Hana and I am so glad that we used it! It was so helpful and really allowed us to enjoy the journey much more than if we would have had to follow a map and watch for the best points of interest ourselves. We were truly amazed by how great of an app this was - it worked wonderfully without cell service (which is a majority of the drive), told us what we could skip and recommended must see stops, and even had a sense of humor- which gave the app a much more human feel.
Like others have said, a couple things do need to be updated like the caves being closed and we weren't able to find the vanilla bourbon toasted coconut it recommended (it would have made a great souvenir for someone back home). But overall, superior app - I'll actually be sharing this app with our travel agent so she can recommend it to future Maui travelers!
The PERFECT Tour Guide / BRILLIANT
okay, I never do reviews unless something went drastically wrong. 🤷🏾♂️
This app is amazing. We just used it today and"George" (that's what we named the voice) was incredible. I saw so impressed by the locational accuracy even we weren't using data. His suggestions were PERFECT. We made it to three of the five places on his"must see" list and they were ABSOLUTELY must see. Plugged him into the car audio. Music automatically lowers when he speaks. LOVED the commentary and Island history strategically placed on the return drive. He tried just enough--not too much.
Safety suggestions were extremely helpful. The app is well priced. 6 bucks for your own periodical your guide?!
Guys, if you are making the drive, this app is A NO BRAINER. do everything he suggests and you'll make the best memories and see the BEST sites without wasting your time! Even his food reconnections were awesome! Well done to the creators. Thks for an awesome time!
