What's New in Version 4.6.3
- You told me that you hated that popup data update notification, and I listened. I've removed it so that new updates will happen in the background without bothering you. Thanks so much for all the feedback! Please keep it coming, to email@example.com.
- Caltrain recently broke their schedule data, which was making it unusable in Routesy. Thanks to Doug Freed (@dfreed160) for providing updated data that makes Caltrain work in Routesy again.
Don't understand the fuss, wish Embark iBART Would come back
I find this app lacking in features and flexibility. The only thing it tells me is how many minutes (not what time) until the next bus or BART. But I have to select a destination station to get this info. Why can't I just select the direction or end of line (Pittsburgh/Bay Pt etc)? But the list of destination stops are ordered by distance from my current location in ALL directions so it's hard to find the stop I want. No ability to sort stops alphabetically. I'd also like to see what time my train will reach my destination, not just when the next train leaves. For MUNI and AC Transit lines there's no option to search for stops by distance from current location. Instead I must choose from an alphabetical list. The alphabetical list that would've been helpful elsewhere in the app. Sigh.
If you're staying in the Bay Area long, learning the local mass transit is a necessity. Routesy provides a simple interface for finding what stops are closest and pulls arrival times to help you navigate the city. I've mostly used it for MUNI lines in San Francisco, so I can't speak for the other transits supported. The maps are accurate and the times are spot on. This app is mostly to help you find stops and plan your moves. Discovery of what lines to use is still on you - there isn't a directions option like in a map application. Still, if you know the lines you'd take in your general vicinity, Routesy will help you plan.
Ok if you already know where you're going
This app really needs system maps of all the agencies they offer info for. It doesn't even need to be interactive, just the map of the Caltrain stops, Muni metro stops, etc that already exist. It's very useful for daily commuting if you take the same line from the same stop every day. You can bookmark your stop and direction so you can easily see when the next train is coming at that stop. But if you're going somewhere new or you're a visitor to the city and you don't know which line or direction to go this app is confusing and sort of useless.
