Description

Test the RPM and wow/flutter accuracy of your turntable, whether 16, 33 1/3, 45, or 78.

Now with the Worldwide RPM Turntable Accuracy Database you can research what other RPM users are finding out about their turntable's accuracy and what they think of them, + Stats of most popular TT makes & models

RPM is proud to be recommended by Rega Research Ltd, makers of some of the best turntables in the world.

See the speed variations, wow/flutter, of your turntable in real time graphics like you've never seen before.

See the wow/flutter accuracy as the max % deviation from the average rpm of the turntable, as well as graphically in the chart.

Save all your rpm tests in My History for reviewing or sharing later.

RPM uses the gyroscope in your iPhone to determine the rotation speed of your turntable, automatically determines which speed setting you're on, and reports how accurate it is.

RPM is the ONLY app which shows your turntable's wow/flutter variations.

Simply place your iPhone on your turntable, close to the centre but doesn't have to be over the centre spindle. As the iPhone rotates the display will remain stationary from your perspective for easy reading.

The UNIQUE feature of RPM is that it shows a scrolling graph of the rpm accuracy variation over time, this shows wow/flutter effects, especially those associated with the turntable not being level, belt wear, etc. You can even detect the small drag caused by the stylus resting in the grooves of the record.

And now with the release of V2 there is the amazing new innovative feature to visualise wow and flutter variations plotted actually around the vinyl centre to show a heat map of exactly where in the turntable rotation the inaccuracies occur.

There are many ways of testing the average RPM of your turntable, many turntables even have this built in, however there is no other practical way of showing the wow/flutter variation over time than RPM.

For Upgraders the history graph parameters can be customised to:
- Set the moving average sample size.
- Accuracy at which to turn the rpm circle sold green.
- Set a duration after which the display updates will freeze so they can continue to be read after the turntable is stopped, this is also required to save sessions to History and upload to the World TT DB
- detect and graph 16, 45, & 78 records.

The graphs kicks in when the rpm accuracy is better than +/- 5% then autoscales to show maximum detail.

Calibration Mode is here! (Upgraders only)
The RPM realtime display is reliant on the iPhones gyroscope accuracy, which is normally very accurate, if you suspect yours isn't quite right then you can now use Calibration Mode to auto test and then apply any necessary correction in real time.
This auto calibration uses the compass to count the turntable revolutions, if you have an older iPhone (not iPhone 6S or newer) then this may be unreliable, in this case you can still add your own multiplier if you have done an independent calibration.
Extensive testing means we're now confident that using RPM can help you setup your turntable to be within 0.1% of its target RPM, assuming your turntable can be adjusted and is itself stable within that tolerance of course.
Use 33 1/3 rpm for auto-calibration as at 45 and 78 rpm the compass simply won't be able to keep up.
Note that calibration isn't normally required, and that only uncalibrated sessions may be uploaded to the World TT DB to ensure all data is comparable.

V3 brings The World RPM Turntable Performance Database, accepting submissions from RPM users worldwide to build the ultimate resource for researching the most accurate turntables out there. Upgrade to join in and upload your own turntable data, go to Settings and make sure you have the Freeze time set then do an RPM session as normal. At the end of the time you will be asked to name your session after which you will have the option to upload it to the World DB. You can always upload from History later too.

What’s New

Version 4.0

By popular demand from the dev roadmap: RPM now stores and syncs a local copy of the World RPM Turntable Database, no more waiting for the download to finish every time you want to look through the data. There will be the initial download of data, which is all done in the background, then syncing with new data happens automatically.
Also, now if your turntable is really bad the freeze display option will still work up to +/-30% accuracy! This was mainly added to help some users who are refurbishing old 78 players.

Great App, priced right!

This is really a great app and saved me a lot of money!! Still running my cheap 15 year old Pro-ject 1.2 and am always thinking about getting that Rega, VPI, or fancy Sota. Well just replaced the cartridge for the 6th or 7th time, cleaned the not quite worn out belt and adjusted the motor “suspension” yet again.

Never had the guts to measure the speed before so printed a few strobe discs and found it runs a hair fast with a little wow. Not fully convinced came across a turntable review that mentioned an iPhone speed app, who knew?! Well my table measures .24% fast and .14 - .2% w&f. Better yet, the graph looks as good or better than most Regas in the new database! New respect for my tired old table which I will keep going and put my money into records!!

Thank you Philip!

A suggestion and recommendation :
- It would be nice to see the entire captured graph
- I get better w&f with a comparable weight placed opposite on the platter. I used a shot glass.

Thanks for the great review and feedback!
I have thought about being able to scroll the graph to show a bit more history, but is essentially a repeating pattern, I will look at this though.
The wow/flutter will definitely be affected if you place the iPhone off centre, ideally you should place it directly over the centre, a counterweight would help too of course if not too heavy.

Extremely useful

I have several turntables of varying age, and some of them are not in working order. I’ve been repairing them but testing the RPM was kinda hard - until I got this app. Much easier to use than my old jerryrigged RPM meter: place the phone down and it does the rest. I would also suggest upgrading to the paid version, for more detail, if you’re doing something similar to me; if you’re just checking your turntable then I think the ad-supported version is fine. Would recommend.

Great, thanks for the feedback. Glad it's helping with your TT repairs.

Essential App For Record Enthusiasts

I have multiple turntables and am always repairing and upgrading my players. I needed to verify my turntable speed and buying a laser system was too expensive. I used this app and found it fulfills all my needs. Easy to use and data can even be stabilized while spinning for easy reading. My advice is to get the upgrade to unlock all the features. My tip: place a cup on the center of your turntable and put the phone on top. Love this app!
