★ Samurai II: Vengeance released !!! ★
The long-awaited sequel to Samurai: Way of the Warrior has finally arrived on iPhone and iPad! Samurai II is a true successor, aided by over a year of focused development.
Overall production values and vicious action put Samurai II on par with console 3D brawlers. Screenshots don’t do Samurai II justice – the fluid action has to be seen running at 60 frames per second on the Retina display or popping off the iPad screen.
The developers listened to fan feedback and improved gameplay throughout. With a new virtual d-pad, dynamic camera, environmental puzzles, traps, and vicious new enemies, Samurai II is brand new experience for hack ‘n’ slash gamers on the go.

I really wanted to like this game.
Samurai: Way of the Warrior is a beautiful iphone game with the depth of a kiddie pool. I will admit I knew that going in... and while trying to play the game I did not mind the lack of depth. The controls are terrible... the idea is novel taking a page from games like Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword on the DS and having you swipe in different directions to take on enemies and execute combos but what is on offer here is a sluggish/inconsistent input system that in later levels sees you being taken down over and over again because the interface simply doesn't allow you to keep up. It also doesn't help that around the 4th stage enemies become so fast that their attack telegraphs become almost unusable as dodge indicators.
In addition to a lack of input speed, the combos are inconsistent and from what I can tell the 'instant death' moves are random. You may might hack and slash at a single enemy over and over again to take him down while the one right next to him will be taken down in one hit.
All said I cannot recommend this game, it could be fun with a little more polish but as it stands now Samurai is a hollow core loop experience with sloppy (poorly documented?) controls. Since there is now a Samurai 2 on the app store Mad Finger revisiting this app for polish seems unlikely.
Love it! Games should always be this bloody!!!! I got this way back when it was free for a day... and THANK GOD I did!!!! If it wasn't ever free, I don't think I would have ever heard about it, and would have missed out on one GREAT gaming experience!
The combos, UI, the music and challenge... it's all just GREAT!!! So great in fact, that I ended up buying the 2nd one THE DAY it hit the AppStore.
Totally worth the $2 price-tag! NAB IT!!!
So much fun and awesome when you split the guys in half on the first strike but the controls are hard to figure out. Can't get past the 3rd part. Make the controls easier or give an option to use these controls or have a d-pad and buttons on the screen like Samurai 2 in the next update. I'll give it 5 stars once the controls are easier.
