Rgg9250 ,

The update is a great fix and makes TopReel a top product.

Thanks for the really rapid response to my issues with the app. It’s refreshing to find that a company listens and understands the problem. Better yet that they actually fixed it in record time. I love the new option to select file names instead of metadata. I also like how it attempts to update the artwork for each movie on the usb stick. It doesn’t always get it right, but it’s very entertaining what it comes up with in the way of titles and descriptions. Great job.

Developer Response ,

Hello Rgg9250,
Thank you for your comment. Based on your description, we think the following might be the case
▸ You have a multimedia file with embedded metadata.
▸ The TopReel app picked up the title from the metadata and you noticed that this metadata was not good/incorrect.
▸ You have edited the metadata, but the TopReel app didn't pick up the changes as metadata was already cached.

One way to fix the problem is to rename the file (using the iXpand Drive app or from a computer). Once this is done, TopReel will simply detect a new file and will use the updated title or fallback to the filename if the title is missing.

In an upcoming update to TopReel you might have more options.
▸ Metadata cache can be cleared via 'Clearing Metadata' option in the sidebar to force a complete reload
▸ You can use (and correct) online metadata which is typically way better than what's embedded.
▸ You can configure the app to stick to filenames in the UI via a dedicated setting.

If I misunderstood your problem description and if you are willing to share additional information, you can contact me directly.

Stu J. ,

Why force me to keep the USB drive connected?

Absolutely unnecessary. You had great software and you ruined it. Let me put it in simple terms: I DON’T WANT A FLASH DRIVE STICKING OUT OF MY DEVICE TO WATCH VIDEOS! What is the point of allowing me to copy them to my iPad if I still have to plug in the flash drive to view them? Idiots. I’ll go pay $20 for a sensible alternative to this rubbish software. I’ve always viewed SanDisk as subpar, this confirms it. I bought your iXpand (overpriced) drive. I downloaded your $5 TopReel app to play them. What ounce of sense is there in forcing me to connect the drive to watch the videos WHEN THE VIDEOS ARE ON MY IPAD? Derp.

Jump through hoops

Why can’t this app open videos in the iExpand secure vault? You force us to decompress the file and then move it one by one to another folder and then we can view it. I then am forced to close iExpand and reopen it after every file because it returns an error stating iExpand already open but it blocks access. I bought the iExpand based on stated product performance and you have completely demolished the functionality and it is no longer the product you charged me for.

Developer Response ,

Hi - Yes, the TopReel app can not view or stream videos that are in the Secure Vault. It is by design. The files inside the Secure Vault are encrypted using the iXpand Drive application(not TopReel). We take file security very seriously and we do not share the decryption keys between apps (neither between SanDisk apps nor 3rd party apps). We recommend that the video file be saved outside the Secure Vault for TopReel to recognize the file format and then play.
Thanks,
