Complete Scam & Waste of Time - Not Recommended!

I've had this App for literally over 4 years and my ending balance before closing my account was a whopping $1.85. I've never cashed out previously so that is the total of my earning/rebate for all those years. I randomly get a email last week telling me that if I am not active on the app then the company will start deducting money from my balance until it reaches zero. When I emailed them and asked to close the account and cash me out, they said they closed my account (which they did not because my account is still active on my app) and they said if I wanted me rebate money I would have to start my account again and reach at least $5. I've been trying to earn back for over 4 years and still couldn't hit that $5 mark. The rebates are only for corporate junk foods anyways and it takes too much effort to link all your accounts for minima rebates here and there. If you want an App that is worthwhile try out EasyShift or iBotta instead, this SavingStar is a joke and a rip-off.

Update: it's been over a month since I wrote this and after my email correspondence and questions, as well as the response to my review, I can also say the customer service is inefficient and my questions were never answered nor was my problem helped/solved. Negative stars.

Hello. Thank you for the feedback. We are adding new offers to the service weekly. As per our terms of service, inactivity fees kick in after 180 days. However, keeping your account active is very easy. Simply activate or redeem an offer on the website or in the mobile app.

Disappointing, Needs Work

1. Only two of the grocery stores in my area appear on the list of retailers. The store where I shop most is not, although its parent company and several sister companies are listed. When I contacted them for assistance, SavingsStar’s only suggestion was for ME to try to coerce the retailer into joining SavingStar. If the parent company and sister companies are already participating, shouldn’t it be SavingsStar’s job to get the retailer added?
2. Offers are very limited. Unless they just happen to include a brand/product you always buy, you’re out of luck. And frequently, I see rebates for items I’m excited to try, only to find out that they are not available at all, or at least not in my area. On the plus side, you only need $5 to cash out. However, I opened my account about 9 months ago, and it has taken 8 months to accrue $5.
3. Bottom line, I will probably cash out and delete the app. It’s just too much trouble for a tiny payout. Ibotta is better, and you don’t have to select the rebates in advance.

Developer Response

Hello. Thank you for this feedback. We are in the process of adding many more rebates. Please keep checking back and hopefully it is for things you like. As for adding retailers, we do try very hard to add more and more retailers to the service. The feedback we have gotten from the retailers is if their customers ask for it, they will consider it more. That is why we ask that you also reach out to your retailer.

Pretty good

I use this app in combination with my other money saving apps. It is been pretty reliable and allowing me to add a few extra dollars back for shopping trip. But if you’re looking to get back more than two or three dollars per shopping trip this is not the app for you. I signed up for this app the same day that I signed up for ibotta in June 2016. I have earned $266 on ibotta and $23 on this app. I would like it if they would switch out their money back options a little more, maybe adding a catalogue for eggs (any eggs or any milk). With these options the money back could be less, like maybe $0.25, but you would still feel like your effort was worth it. All in all pretty good but if you’re looking to get back $10 on a shopping trip it won’t happen on this app. But still worth the download and using it
