Impractical Update

This app used to be my go-to for creating quick, high-quality scans. However, the most recent update seems to have forgone a user-oriented interface for the sake of a sleeker overall style. Many new features take away the opportunity to manage multi-page scans as they are created and instead embed formatting features within individual pages of the document. The user is no longer able to to control certain aspects, like a border recognition setting for an entire document during scanning, and instead has to edit pages singularly after the app has stored them. This creates a much longer process. Additionally, the app no longer features a scan preview before the page is added to the document. Therefore, if the scan turns out to be poor (i. e. blurry), the user has to go through another long process to insert a better scan in its place, in contrast to immediately discarding and rescanning page. These "new features," which could be convenient for very, very quick scans, were still mostly available in the previous version of the app, but in this update, they do not save the user time or energy after editing and reformatting the scan one page at a time. If I could, I would revert to the previous version.

Update is cool but not that useful. I took Scanner Pro out of my unused folder to see if the update would bump TurboScan from my go to scan app. The answer is nope. First of all, Scanner Pro crashed a bunch of times in the few minutes I brought it out of retirement. Next, the new picture folder scan feature wanted to basically convert all my pictures to scans which obviously isn't very useful. Perhaps for batch scanning new scans it would be nice. But my biggest problem with this app is it still too cumbersome and thus slow. To adjust a scans edge (which is frequently because it's still not great at auto detection) you must tap 1 to select the doc, 2 to bring up the edit toolbar, 3 edit tab, 4 adjust edges tab. Whew! Now you can adjust the edges, but from the corners only. TurboScan lets you adjust with one tap from the middle as well, which makes keeping the doc straight much easier and faster.
I didn't bother to compare scan quality with this update since the edge detection and number of taps needed to adjust stuff makes Scanner Pro too slow and frustrating. It's already gone back to the unused folder to wait for the next update.

Love the Update

So I’ve been a rabid Scannable by Evernote user and promoter to others since it came out at the beginning of the year. I think the recent update to Scanner Pro 6 made me change my mind. I like how you can organize scan on here, which you can’t in Scannable. But I think the feature that trumps all is the radar feature, which searches the camera roll and finds images that have documents in them that can be scanned. This makes it easy to take a pic from the lock screen and create the PDF later. That is not available in Scannable. I still use Evernote quite exclusively, as well as Dropbox and Google Drive. I find that exporting to any of these is easier in Scanner Pro 6 than in Scannable. This is a beautiful app and you won’t be disappointed in giving them a few dollars for it.
