What's New in Version 2.9.0
Updated for iPhone 5 and iOS 6.
Summary: If you just want to read the latest Schlock comic, then download this app. Nonexistent multitasking is annoying while reading the archives.
On my 3GS.
The app works well. I can read any schlock comic I want, provided I know when it was published or where it is in the books. The app remembers which is the last comic I have read, so there is a big button on the start screen which takes me to the latest comic which I have not read.
Also neat: once a comic is downloaded, it gets stored locally until you clear the local archives. That means off-line viewing of comics which you have already read (bookmark your favorites).
I have two complaints. The app does not support multitasking, so if I'm reading through the archives and leave the app, I have to reload the app and find my place again (unless I use a bookmark, which updates automatically, but that doesn't solve the reload problem.) This would not be much of a problem were it not for the second problem, which is the ad placement. With the ads right next to the "next" button, I accidentally press ads all the time, which pushes me to the app store and I have to reload everything.
One time, I was able to just switch, so this may just be me, but putting the ads somewhere else, supporting in-app ad frames, or changing button placement would still be nice.
That said, the app is free, and if you just need to read the latest comic, it's great.
Awesome Comic and great app
I've been reading this comic for 4 years and it is hi-larious. Howard's movie reviews are spot on too. The app works great and is super convenient since I'm rarely in front of a computer screen any more.
A great way to kill a few minutes (or hours...)
This is a well-crafted Web comic, and I continue to be impressed at the depth of story Howard squeezes onto my iPhone screen.
