Sluggish and clunky

PhilCollins168

Great idea and the content is solid. However, even on the latest iPad the app is sluggish to browse through. I've just been at the recent MRS meeting which is pretty large, there were 200 sessions/sections per day. Browsing through the list was slow. Once added to my personal itinerary it was extremely annoying that each time I went back into the app the list reset to all days expanded and opened at the start of the week. By Friday, this meant that I had to scroll through quite a long list to get down to the session I was interested in. It needs to be corrected to open at the last page. Updates to the program were forced on me a few times during the week and this was very slow - mobile and wifi coverage at a big meeting is notoriously congested so the updates need to be delta updates rather than seemingly downloading an entire program again.

Personally, I wasn't interested in the note taking section. I imagine that most people have their own note taking solutions that they're comfortable with and that sync/act on their notes in a way that suits them. It would be tough for you to incorporate all the functionality of another app such as Pages or Notability in your app. I think you're better off focusing on what you can do - provide quick, easy access to a program, than trying to do everything.

Disappointing and dangerous, but maybe usable

Meetings with 20,000 people create a dramatic schedule organization problem! Unfortunately for AGU2013 we're basically forced into another half baked commercial solution. Rough to see AGU going down this con-mercial route.

It's a bit more functional than the last time I tried one, but it seems to me the risk of losing all itinerary work is enormous. It's too sluggish on my iPhone, mostly because the search options are inadequate for narrowing the selected set. It mostly works on my iPad. The most infuriating things: won't export itinerary back to server at random times, saying you must be online to do this (I was online!); will update entire meeting database (many minutes on 3G) without any option to choose not to; exports only to your main iCloud calendar, when it would be so obvious to set up a special meeting calendar.

If you ask me, apps like this are a poor alternative to just exporting selected items to text (and at least you can do that via email from the app, to get your data out of it.)

Clunky and not ready for prime time

This software is put to shame by web tools, frankly. On an iPhone it borders on unusable. While it is clearly designed as a receptacle for meeting programs and so I can't criticize any content per se, the presentation if the content is awful. For instance, browsing a program yields and unfathomable list of trivial meetings; one has to search to see the parts if the meeting you want. Doing that usually generates a list where, if you don't auto open the days, you often find you cannot scroll down when you do open by day. There doesn't appear (for AGU) that there is a way to just list the session names by default, so when opening a day I get all abstracts at once-probably just an annoyance on an iPad but a real pain in iPhone. And then there is usually a button to load next 10 things- which reopens all sessions I had closed. Aarg!

Have I missed things at my meeting because of this software? Yes. So one star.
