Founded in 1922, Science News is a leading biweekly magazine covering new research findings from across the spectrum of scientific disciplines. The categories covered include Atom & Cosmos, Body & Brain, Earth & Environment, Life & Evolution, Humans & Society, Genes & Cells, Matter & Energy and Math & Technology.

Science News features concise write-ups of the most important and intriguing recent discoveries, plus in-depth feature stories that reveal how science works; notices and reviews of new science-related books, films and exhibits; a variety of rotating short news items (including the “It’s Alive” column on weird and wonderful creatures; “How Bizarre,” about the unexpected and far out side of science; and “Mystery Solved” about new ways of looking at scientific conundrums) and Science Visualized, a photo or infographic that provides a view into the world of science.

Science News is published biweekly (26 times a year) by the nonprofit Society for Science & the Public.

Customer Reviews

Excellent Content - App is Amateur

The Science News content and presentation is excellent - 5 stars. They need to get more professional app developers for the app - 3 stars.

After failing to have a working version available with IOS 8, the version they have finally released removes all existing issues and requires their re-download. Unfortunately downloading doesn’t work reliably in the new version, it constantly pauses and restarts, which means unless you have a very fast connection, you can’t get a full issue downloaded.

This is on top of previous issues which should have been found with basic usability testing such as:
- Shop view only works in Portrait mode, though the magazine can only be viewed in Landscape mode
- scrolling is page based, but the content doesn’t line up on the pages

Science News Publishers, time to get more serious about your development approach. You have excellent content and presentation, but the app is letting you down. I’m sure you hold your printers for the print edition to much higher standards than you are holding your developers for the app edition.

Terrible experience with subscription access

Purchased the online access from iTunes for nearly $50 yet cannot seem to gain access through online signup process. Each time I check for an update I have to log in and then get stonewalled in the process. I am offered the option to purchase individual editions but I've already paid for a year. Somehow this needs to be fixed.

What happened?

Content is great. However, they recently switched to portrait only mode…with no way to rotate the screen. I can’t tell you what a pain-in-the-you-know-what this is for me to read. I used to really enjoy reading each issue on my iPad. Now, I just don’t read it anymore. Give us the ability to rotate screens and I’ll add more stars.
