A real interactive scanner that uses your phone's sensors and data from NASA to give you information about your surroundings, the Earth, Mars, and the Sun.
Over 100k DLs and a Top Entertainment App since its release! Actual user reviews:
"Awesome app, a lot of fun for me and my kids!"
"This app gets better with each update."
This scanner has 9 integrated modules: Solar, Geo, Weather, Audio, Gyro, Mag, GPS, Cam, and Device, three of which are free. Full HD graphics on all iPhones and iPads. Now supports NODE+ wireless sensors with 7 additional modules!
Graphs the last 96 hours of solar wind plasma readings from the US ACE satellite and displays the most recent Solar X-ray. Measured parameters are Proton Density, Bulk Speed, and Ion Temperature.
Displays animated global satellite data from NASA on a 3D globe. Last 10 months of land surface temp, sea surface temp, vegetation index, and chlorophyll concentration.
Displays current meteorological conditions from closest weather station. Temperature, wind speed and direction, pressure, humidity, precipitation. Also displays Mars weather and time.
AUDIO MODULE (included with "Unlock All")
Displays a spectrum readout of the microphone's audio, as well as current dB levels and Hz frequency.
Displays device-relative magnetometer readings. Comes with a spheroid visualization and raw microtesla vector and total field data.
GPS MODULE (free)
Displays WGS84-corrected coordinates on a 3D globe based on NASA satellite images. Zooms and rotates. Also displays readout of latitude, longitude, and altitude values.
GYRO MODULE (free)
Displays device attitude in real world space (3-axis bubble level). Includes gyro sphere pointing to world up and numerical data for world up vector.
DEVICE MODULE (free)
Displays device data (unique ID, system memory, graphics memory, graphics API, OS, processor name, number of cores, device name).
CAM MODULE (included with "Unlock All")
Turns the scanner screen into a live camera feed. Also displays raw RGB levels of your phone's camera.
NODE is a wireless bluetooth sensor that provides additional sensor data. Modules include:
Gyroscope, magnetometer, and accelerometer.
Humidity, pressure, ambient light, and temperature.
Infrared thermometer (measures temperature from up to 15ft away).
Color scanner (app provides RGB and HEX formats).
Gas sensor (NO, NO2, CO, Cl2, SO2, and H2S. CO2 coming soon).
This uses the CHROMA module to match color scans to the Munsell color system.
This is used in commercial food production to make sure baked goods are baking evenly.
This application is NOT IN ANY WAY AFFILIATED with any brand other than that of the app's creator.

Disappointing - but has potential
The free app only has three working tools. The $4.99 upgrade purchase gives you 6 more. Each tool has at least 2 different readings. The weather tool gives you a few local weather numbers and the weather on Mars. The current local weather takes a long time to load. The nodes mentioned in the description are additional instrument readings that, in order to work, require you to buy a separate $125 device. This tool, in turn, needs other parts (around $25 to $100 each) plus another $10 each for the software, in order to function. That's a lot of money for a, say, infrared thermometer that cost $20 at a hardware store. The app has potential, it's not there yet.
Do a scan on the area...
This Star Trek inspired app is pretty good. As most other reviews say, the sounds are a little bit sub par, doesn't sound like a tricorder at all. However the features inside he app works well.
Give or take a little on the weather (may show a little bit higher or lower temperature reading), and for me, no functional solar data (bummer since I bought the access all package). I've reached out to the app developer with no response, so I'm going out on a limb and going to say they probably don't focus on the app anymore.
That being said, yes, when ever you try to tap the NODE for the folks on iPhone 6 on IOS 10.3, the app will close down on you. It doesn't happen to my iPhone 4, which is still on iOS 7.1.2.
So anywho... other than that, this app is pretty fun if you disregard the flaws that this app has. If the developer listens to the people's comments and updates the SciScanner app, I believe it will be the app worth getting.
Live long and prosper.
For a phone app it's not bad
The magnetometer function is a neat trick, I'm not getting data from the solar wind analysis tool. The Martian weather option is a cute addition.
The camera color analysis tool is also nice. This app takes the standard collection of iPhone instruments and gathers data from them in a fashion interesting to people curious about the phone's capabilities and recording tools and also links you by Internet to some cool functions.
I haven't tried the Node+ accessories but it's a provocative option if you've got 150 extra bucks to sink into your Star Trek cosplay.
