SciTE is an extendable development environment for editing and processing source code and markup language files.
Extremely customizable, SciTE can be tailored to particular projects and work flows. Your preferred tools can be easily integrated into SciTE. The environment can be extended using the Lua scripting language.
Asian language files in multi-byte encodings like Shift JIS are handled natively with no conversions which avoids possible corruption.
For documentation and display, files may be exported with highlighting to various formats including LaTeX and PDF.
This version fixes a crash that could occur when entering certain characters in East Asian encodings.
Ratings and Reviews
Fast and highly extensible
SciTE is a great, highly extensible, and fast text editor. I use it mainly to edit R and LaTeX files. The developer and the SciTE mailing list provide nearly instant feedback on any problems that may arise. Previously I had tried BBEdit, TextWrangler, Fraise, and Tincta. I find this text editor be far superior for my needs (they were either too bloated, no longer in development and buggy, or didn't have the features I wanted).
I highly recommend this editor.
Not working for Python on Yosemite
I’ve used SciTE on a PC doing Python for years and it is awesome. I’m trying to move to Mac and saw this port. When I try to run Python from F5 (Tools, Go) I get the error:
shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: Operation not permitted.
So some kind of a permissions error but not being a Mac guy I’m lost. There is no Mac specifc info with the app, and there is no way to contact the developer. This app was updated in April, so I expected it to support Yosemite?
Love it but needs some polishing touches
I’ve used Scite on the windows platform for years, so it was a no-brainer. I do wish the "File -> Open Recent” feature would actually work though. It’s never done anything and I open _plenty_ of docs with this editor.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
