new annoying features
i purchased the original version of this game when i had a new first generation ipad. That version was a total winner and still plays perfectly. I recently downloaded the current version onto a 6th generation iPad. It still seems to play ok but there are some annoying features that don't seem able to be inactivated or modified. For some reason as one is placing a tile on the board it is suddenly magnified until it is in place. Why? There is no reason that is necessary and it seems to make tile placement a little slower and difficult to place accurately. A major dislike in this version for me is the game vs a random opponent. There is no ability to set a time limit for the opponent's next move so while you are waiting and waiting you can't get rid of that game. You can start another random opponent game and have the same thing happen. The only way to get out of these games seems to be to forfeit thus lowering unfairly your online win % while enhancing that of the online opponent who when i have checked may never even have completed again. There should be a way to specify wait times and avoid the need to forfeit. please fix this problem!! I had paid for my first gen game so was able to download rhe ad-free version of this one so can't comment on that aspect of this iteration. I will continue playing the original version of this game. On a first gen iPad it is bug- and ad- free. What a relief. Sometimes less really is more.
Irritating New Feature
Overall I really like this app and have not experienced glitches described by some of the other reviewers. However, there is an irritating new feature that is hard to describe, but I will try. In the past I could place a word on the board without playing it and then go to the "dictionary" to verify spelling. Upon returning to the board my word would still be where I left it. YAY! However, following a recent update, when I place a word (without playing it) go to the dictionary and return to the board the game re-shows the last word played by the computer (with all the tiles falling into place followed by the score) and then all the tiles from my unplayed word rapidly leave the board and return to the tray. This is frustrating because I do not need or care to see a replay of the last word played by the game. Even more so and it's annoying to have to replace my tiles on the board in the exact same place.
Nothing Close to the Original Game
A poor reproduction of the original. Don't buy it unless you have very low expectations.
When playing a 12 turn game, there is no way to see how many turns remain!
The dictionary mode should be optional, that way players could challenge each other's words forcing a player who lays down an invalid word to lose their turn. Currently a player can keep laying down tiles and rely on the game to tell them if the word is valid. This is an obvious deviation from the original rules.
The dictionary window SHOULD CLEAR itself between player turns. Currently, when a player uses the dictionary, the next player can see the last word the previous player was looking up. This gives the current player some insight to the previous player's letters. This is a MAJOR FLAW!
It would be nice if the dictionary showed the definition of words.
It would be nice if the game saved scores by player name(s) as well as the actual screenshot of the final game. E.g., Greg vs Lillian: Greg won 23 games, Lillian won 35 games, etc.
It would be nice if there was a way to save a picture of the board at the end of a game.
If would be nice to have a feature to allow the player to undo their word. Occasionally, we've accidentally pressed play before laying down all the letters we wanted.
