Game play is improved with the new update (my last rating was 1 star). Badge notifications are now working, so I now see how many games are waiting for my turn on the icon. When I open a game, I like that my opponent's last move is animated, making it easy to see what has changed on the board. Graphics are much cleaner and crisper too, so the game is easier on the eyes.
I like the new "teacher". Tone is everything! Gone is the old cartoon character who eyed me disapprovingly. Gone are the condescending comments about missed opportunities. Now, a graduation cap can be clicked to see better plays. And the comments are constructive, rather than ego-bruising.
My one complaint, minor because it does not have to do with game play itself, is the new chat. I need to unmute it for every game. I would prefer if chat permission was the default and I could mute obnoxious opponents. I don't play against strangers, so chatting to my friends is a part of most games. No notice appears to tell me my friend has made a comment. And every keystroke must be done manually — no auto correct. There is no spell check, no moving the cursor to the error. You must back up to the error and retype everything or ignore errors. But, I'll live with all those now that the game appears glitch-free.
Honestly, if some hacker from a rival company had wanted to come in and ruin nearly every aspect of a beloved app to try and finish off EA Games once and for all, they couldn't have done a better job. Aside from some cool new animation--and hey, that's what we all play scrabble for, right kids, the animation--the undoing, unraveling, and diminishing of every improvement that's been made on this app over the last 7 years or so has been undone. From the unaccountably slow interfacing to the smaller harder to read type and numbers to the difficulty of use in the chat function, every bit of what was good is gone. Who updated this, Republicans? It's hard to know where to begin. Teacher is terrible now. You can't see the face. She says you couldn't have done better then proceeds to show you something better. The tiles won't stay there. You can't double tap on the zoom in and out function anymore. You can't double tap on the tile exchange function anymore. The end of the game tells you how many tiles the opponent has left before they're played in the play with computer function so you have to count the tiles in your head. There's no more autocorrect or predictive type in the chat function and the type is smaller at the same time so your texting there is twice as impossible. IT IS JUST AWFUL. THE WORST. CLASSIC FAIL. FIX THIS NOW!!!!
I cannot even begin to describe how much I hate the "upgrade" that downloaded today. The font is an abomination and is a distraction from the game. The changes to how tiles move is beyond frustrating - half the time the click and drag from the bottom of the screen fails to even work and the tile refuses to stay where you are trying to put it - it keeps popping back down to the tile rack. The teacher no longer has a "face" to indicate how you did - you have to tap on the teacher to see. The word check erases the whole word if you try to change one letter (a step backward, since that was an IMPROVEMENT in an earlier version). And the worst part is that as soon as you place a tile on the board, the screen zooms in so you can't see the whole board, and the double tap to zoom out no
longer works - you have to zoom out using a reverse pinching motion. All in all it takes many more finger actions to play than it used to, and even then it doesn't always work. I don't know how you ever decided to release this joke of a game. I seriously keep thinking it must be a virus or that you got hacked or something - it's that bad. Users, do yourself a favor and keep the old version!! If only I could choose 0 stars.
